- "Disappointing"
You are Alex Mercer. What exactly that means is initially unclear because this is a man who has lost his memory, but has awoken in a world in which he possesses untold power. A viral outbreak has claimed Manhattan, forcing the island into a military quarantine. The infected citizens are undergoing radical, monstrous changes -- none more drastic than Alex himself. As the most powerful being on a closed island, the entire city is your playground.
Alex Mercer possesses shape-shifting powers that let his arms turn into blades, grappling whiplashes, or two hulking propositions of rock-hard muscle. Not only that, Mercer can also consume any person to take his shape, thus being able to slip into strategic locations without being detected. All of these skills can be upgraded by trading Evolve Points (EP) earned by completing missions or side events that test your speed, agility and brute force.
Sounds like a great game so far?
To be honest it really had the potential to be one; if only the developer had polished it and taken care of the little things.
The weak storyline and its innumerable potholes ruin any chance of you getting involved in the game. The long cutscenes break the pace and momentum of the game. The voice acting is decent. Being tedious and repetitive is not how you would raise a game's difficulty.
To add to its woes, Prototype has badly designed characters, weapons and villains that seem straight out of the 1990's. The graphics suggest that while the game's engine can render a great deal more, the artists have failed to live up to its potential.
Finally...
Game is good, don't get me wrong - but, the entire time I felt they could have did much better for how hyped up this game was.
