God of War II Question

How do I OPEN this gate?

I am at typhoons cavernous prison. I have just pressed r1 and got launched across a gap. In front of me there is a gate, with a chest just inside. I've tried all types of stuff. I cant get it! help!

Slide back down on the chain, then quickly jump back up and open the chest.

    Slide down the chain, then, before hitting the ground, press the R1 button
    to get back to the other edge. Slide down the chain again, and the gate should open.

    Slide down rope then get off then quickly get back up on ledge and should be open
