great game from what I remember....owned it for pc when it first came out....don't have it but got it from amazon for like 5 bucks on ps2 and haven't played it in probably almost 10 years but I do recall enjoying this one very much so I can't wait to play it again! hahaha

Am I the only one that finds in funny that Greg considered 10 hours short back then. Now, that would be a long FPS.

He might stutter quite a bit in this particular review but Greg Kasavin was always one of my very favorite reviewers. I always enjoy his thoughts on games. :)

Just finished the game and I pretty much agree with most of what's said here. I think red faction's main problem is that it seems a bit rushed. The plot element is intriguing and sucks you in but is ultimately pretty unfulfilling... there's no major plot twist/conspiracy at the end or anything. It just kind of fizzles out. On the whole I thought it was very good though.

This was a really cool game for its time. I have fond memories of playing it back in 2001. Definately one of the best games to come out that year.

More a technical walkthrough than a review. Didn't mentioned the one thing that makes this stand out amongst FPS's of it's era - it's story! Trust me, buy this game and yes, play a game with ordinary shooter mechanics, but play a game where the story really drags you in and makes you want tot finish the game! If you have played Freespace The Great war and Freespace 2 and Summoner, you know one two things about Violation: You get solid gameplay mechanics and a great story!

@ lonewolf1196 there are automatic sniper rifles, semi automatic sniper rifles (standard for US military) soo... bolt action sniper rifles are for those who arent scared of dying

This is surprisingly bloody, especially for an older game.

our military just desighned a full auto shot gun (the AA-12) so how is it theres is still pump? after all in ww1 and part of 2 almost all rifles were bolt. now only hardcore snipers are bolt so wouldnt full auto shotties become popular

Greg Kasavin, the actual reviewer, is the best reviewer that ever worked for gamespot.
