I just have to be a conservatist when it comes to the this franchise. I just are one of those who prefer the old-school RE. Sure I understand everyone who loves this game and just look at all the praise it has got. But, whatever, it did not really convice me of its greatness.
A couple of years ago a played the PC version of this game and hated it. The controls were crap - it took ages to turn around when in close quarter battle and it almost every time led to certain death. Yeah I used mouse and keyboard - so what?! That is how you play games on PC.
I could not get over how ugly the game looked either - blurry colors and not impressed by the character models either. And lots of graphical glitches to boot.
When playing the PS 2 version I can only say that I still just cannot understand what it so extraordinary with this RE installment. Graphics are ok but the controls feels just slow and not optimized for the fierce action and shoot-outs you have to endure at times. Aiming takes time and enemies seems only to die if you head-shot them.
The enemies in this game are no longer zombies btw. The main lot are composed of humans controlled by parasites. They are often slow but come in overwhelming numbers at times. Others are huge bug like things - crawlers and fliers and orge-looking creatures called El Gigante.
The game no longer plays out like a survival horror. There are not much time for exploration and the puzzles are really weak. Enemies now drops ammo, money and herbs and one could say it plays out more like a shooter. I would not say the game is really scary, but shoot-outs provide lots of tension and some boss battles are down-right impossible if you do not know how to handle them.
One of the hardest games I have ever played. Died lots and that just on normal mode. I could just blame the controls - but at times I just got to stressed out by all the battling. I guess some just handle certain games better than others I guess...
The game is also filled with sequences where you are supposed to press certain buttons at the right time to proceed (survive) - like when some scumbags drops a rock on you or at another time when you are falling down a deep pit. It is either square+cross or L1+L2 and sometimes it seems you have no time at all to choose buttons and it is really annoying to die over and over in these sequences. Like the bloody one with Krauser.
Sorry if I did not really like this game. If you can live with it - that is good. If not - then sorry again.
I will never try to play RE 5.

Simply an amazing game, if you haven't played this you should. The mixture of horror and action is fantastic.
