RE4 is a good action game but it has nothing to do with the old Resident Evil games except the name of the main character.
This time the shooting in the game takes a MUCH bigger part than puzzle solving and exploration of the levels, this could have been nice if only the game wasn't so easy, making it boring after a while.
It's just too easy to head shot zombie ("los plagas") after zombie without ever having to use a green herb, and most of the boss battles are pretty easy too.
Remember the tyrant from Code Veronica? man I almost broke my dreamcast cause of that boss, but in RE4 I would play for 30 minutes before going to work and in those 30 minutes I would complete a whole level and defeat a boss.
Also the puzzles are practically self solving, there's literally no thinking to be done what so ever in this game.
It's also not scary at all, it doesn't even try to be scary, what's up with that? I promise you that if you play code veronica or resident evil 3 TODAY you will still get scared at some parts! so why not even try to scare us?
There aren't any survival aspects to speak of, almost every zombie drops a herb or handgun bullets when you kill him so you'll never find yourself counting bullets and wandering around with 10% health for 2 hours like in the old games, this also takes away a lot from the over all atmosphere of the game.
So in conclusion I liked head shooting zombies and then blasting them with a round house kick or a suplex but other than that this game really disappointed me, if it wasn't called Resident Evil I would definitely give this game a 9 but since it is called RE even though it feels nothing like the old games I shall give it only 8.5
