- The Bottom Line:
- "Don't believe the hype"
Resident Evil 4 is the first Third-Person Shooter game from the Resident Evil series, and although it takes a new, very ambitious approach to the series, it takes away from the horror factor, it takes away what makes Resident Evil so iconic.
I personally enjoyed the first playthrough of Resident Evil 4, but on my second playthrough it felt, boring, bland, and it was just missing something, it felt empty, without the captivating story, scary zombies, and extremely out of control mutants that the other games had. First things first, there's no zombies, Resident Evil 4 features a new enemy, instead of zombies there are parasites, called "Los Plagas" which are controlled by Osmund Settler. Resident Evil 4 takes place in Spain, where there seems to be no evidence of the zombie outbreak. The story of Resident Evil 4 is quite boring, and the game overall is very easy, it seems to aim at a younger(9-15) audience. You play as Leon S Kennedy, who is now a government agent on a mission to find the presidents daughter, Ashley Graham. Leon politely asks a man if he's seen Ashley and he responds with an axe aimed at Leon's head. Leon soon discovers the parasite, and fights his way through the village, and in the end kills Settler. However one good part of Resident Evil 4 was the mercenary mode, where you can play as, Ada, Leon, Jack Krauser, Hunk, and Albert Wesker. Resident Evil 4 doesn't even TRY to be scary, if you play any Resident Evil before Resident Evil 4, they will at least make you feel scared once, Resident Evil 4 took the Resident Evil fright, and just trashed it. There is no element of survival in Resident Evil 4, every other zombie drops bullets and a herb.
Overall if your looking for a good Zombie-Survival, horror game, Resident Evil 4 is not for you. If you'd like a extra easy Third-Person Shooter game, with very little story, and all its focus on action, Resident Evil 4 might be for you.
