There is no reason for games like Alpha protocol to get higher scores. That game is so bad and RE6 plays so much better in every category this is why you can not trust reviews thar are not objective.

Higher expectations for more credible titles. Is this game better than most 4s or 5s... I am sure it is. But the feeling from a gamer highly anticipating a game and coming to find out it isn't as impressive as it seemed to be in the previews shows. If a game like Assassins Creed 3 comes out as average, youd better believe it will be bashed as if its a 4 or 5 level game.

    @kdiddy4eva
A game like RE6 should get low scores based on the game not expectations. How am i suppose to trust there scores now when the reviewers are not objective and give lower scores based more on personal feelings than actual gameplay

"The game should probably be getting scores around that 6.5-8 range on average"

I'm guessing you haven't checked out gamerankings yet. It has a 70% on there.

    That's nice.

Don't cry but most of the world is in disagreement with you, I know that makes you mad that as a fanboy, people are talking bad about something you like.

It is REALLY inconsistent, but there's no way it should be getting "bad" game scores. I'm not the one to bash major publications having an opinion, but GS giving it a 4.5 is absurd. There's just too many times where the game is flat out great to merit such a low score. Yes there's times where the game can get downright bad, but only in minor stretches.

Once all the controversy dies down, most game will/should be able to make the call for themselves and see it's a really good game if given time. As for reviewers well. Who cares?

Or maybe the game just isn't that good. Unfortunately it suffers the same fate as the Splinter Cell franchise. It has the same old title but everything that originally lured you into the series no longer exists. I'm glad I only rented it.

you have a point, for the most part sites use a three point rating scale labeled as 20 (0.5's) point scale, basically everything is great and gets the 8-9 range mediocre with the 6-7 range or awful 3-4. RE6 may be worthy of say a 5.8 but that falls outside of the range so its yanked down to a 4.5
  • Oct 3, 2012 1:55 pm GMT
Numerical scores don't mean anything anyway, because it's impossible to objectively define what the "10" means. And even if you think you can, the definition changes constantly so any review you write or score you give is not timeless.

For instance: Many would call Super Mario Bros. 3 a 10/10 game. 10/10 means "There is no conceivable way this game could be improved upon." Flash forward several years, and the game has been improved upon several times over. So do you go back and give Super Mario Bros. 3 a lower score to admit that you were wrong? Or do you break the rating scale and give newer games scores like 55/10 because SMB3 is your definition of the "perfect" game?

Of course, neither of those two things happen. SMB3 will forever keep its 10/10 tag, and newer games will get 8,9,10/10s, meaning the numbers are completely meaningless in the objective sense, and are just an attempt at expressing subjective opinions using objective numbers.

Bottom line: If you want to know how good a game is, play the demo, watch gameplay videos, and read about what the game is like. Don't read critics, don't look at numbers. Make your own decision about the game; the opinion of the mass public should have no bearing on what you think of a game.

OP of course I was agreeing and echoing your opinion. I just rented the game saw this topic and wanted to vent. As ure topic was on the front page I saw no reason to make a whole new topic to discuss what is already being discussed.

I'll just wait and see what Angry Joe gives it. Not so much the score, but just what he has to say about it. The guy is about as unbiased as you could as for. He did a playthrough of the demo, so I'm sure he's got a review close to finished.

Two things happen whenever a big game bombs: 1) haters continue to hate; and (2) fanboys try to justify the game's bad reviews with some sort of silly story/theory/excuse.

I don't know about all this conspiracy theory non-sence, to me it seems that the scores have been brutally low because people expect much more from a RE title. This game may be a 6 or 7 on its own but as an installment in a very successful series it looks like a 4 or 5 compared to the rest of the RE games.

Its not a conspiracy theory, its common sense.

These gaming websites are businesses. Reviewing video games is a business. And its driven by advertising money.

I dont know why you would even consider it a "conspiracy theory"... its just the way the world works. Everything is about money.

Then by that logic, wouldn't the sites make more money by taking bribes from Capcom to say the game is the best ever made?

Better common sense, maybe the game really isn't all that great.

Or you could be in denial and not realize that a lot of mechanics are half-assed and forced into the game.

Actually Alpha Protocol was a great game. I highly enjoyed it. But it was very flawed. In a lot of ways I think it shares a lot of similarities with RE6.

Though I havent picked up RE6 yet, but I plan to soon. Despite the flaws, I did enjoy the demo.

Controversy and a game being held to a higher standard is not the same thing. This still has nothing to do with attracting extra hits from readers and what not. RE6 in the eyes of critics and a majority of users just did not live up to expectations regardless of how you feel.

And you telling everyone who does not agree with you that they are illiterate is pretty childish. It is a message board people will debate your opinion. The title of this board infers that you have uncovered some great conspiracy so I think the responses you are getting are justified.

The title and its implied "big conspiracy" was sarcasm. If you actually read through my post, and understood what I was saying (ie: not being illiterate), you would have realized that immediately. That point of this topic was that it isnt some "big secret" its just common sense, and people should stop freaking out about the very low scores. The game was a disappointment, but its not terrible.

And Im not sure if youve ever taken a higher mathematics course, but equivalent is not that same as equal or identical to. Actually look at the wording of my post. Regardless of the reasoning the end result is the same, so they are equivalent comparisons. The game is of a certain quality, yet because of x reason, it scores a bit lower. This is why Im calling you illiterate, not because you disagree with my opinion, but because you continue to fail to comprehend everything Im typing.

And you continue to miss this point, so here I will bold it for you. No one is denying that RE6 did not live up to the hype/ expectations. I am not disputing that. I am not disputing that many of these reviewers genuinely didnt like the game. I am simply saying that instead of giving the game a mediocre review like it probably deserves, they are giving it a relatively very low review (for a AAA game), to create controversy and more clicks. Because this is what the entire game review industry is founded upon. This is an industry, and its all about money in the end. Just like how newspapers tell the basic story, but jazz it up a little. These reviewers give their genuine opinion, but with a little spice added to it to gain interest. Its no different.

This topic was being slightly ironic. Because this isnt some "big secret" or some "big conspiracy". Its just a game that fell below expectations with a bit of your typical corporate marketing jazz thrown in. Its quite the opposite of a conspiracy, its just the status quo.

THAT is the point of this topic, and you continue to let the point sail clear right over your head. Im not sure if youre distracted over there while reading these posts or you have some sort of legitimate learning disability. I dont mean that in any derogatory sort of way, Im just trying to understand why this is so hard for you, and many others in this topic to comprehend. For them, I think its a case of them glancing over the topic, missing the irony and sarcasm, and just assuming its like many of the others on this board. But you have continued to respond to my posts in depth, so whats your excuse?
