Resident Evil 6 User Review

I had been told that Resident Evil 6 was "the letdown of 2012" but I still tried it anyways.

Difficulty:
Just Right
Time Spent:
10 to 20 Hours
The Bottom Line:
"Underappreciated"
It had to have been a few weeks of me just continuously looking at reviews, being given opinions, and also being told things about the game before I bought it.

Pretty much everyone said the same thing. "It's not that great" or "Its disappointing". These words made me hesitant to purchase the game, so I waited a bit, and to my surprise the price went down rather quickly.. which didn't seem to help the benefit of the doubt that the game may actually be good after all.

Most know that in Resident Evil 6 (unlike RE5) there are 4 different campaigns to play, instead of just one start to finish campaign like most of the others. By the time I got the game, they had already allowed players to play the "Ada" campaign without unlocking it (beating one of the campaigns). Naturally I could not resist, so I started off with Ada's campaign. From the moment I turned it on, I could instantly see how much the graphics had been improved. Also the character movement wasn't as "plastic" as before, felt a lot more lifelike, and then... the unthinkable, you can both walk... AND AIM!

It would be safe to say that I was extremely thankful that they finally added that feature into Resident Evil.

I played through Ada's campaign, it didn't take long sadly. It was fun, I enjoyed myself, and I already did not understand why the game was put down the way it was. It was interesting enough, I wouldn't venture to say it was a GREAT experience, but it was entertaining.

I hopped onto Jake's campaign, which honestly, blew my mind. It was so much more advanced then the other RE games by itself, and plus you get to play with Sherry. : ) Which is freakin' awesome. The combat was improved dramatically, and the lighting and visuals were much better than any of the other games. Sprinting makes things a bit better, jumping on the ground or falling to the floor and having to crawl backwards in the attempt of making distance from the foe standing above you... they were all great improvements to the game. The irritating squad commands some of us know so well from RE5 were made a little more realistic, now even the characters in the game get frustrated with them. Also, a lot of people complained about how poorly lit the game was, and that you couldn't see much of anything.. with all due respect to those people.. That Is Kinda The Idea.

I wouldn't classify this as a horror game, then again I don't classify widely considered horror games as horror games. Then again maybe that is just because horror's are to be experienced in reality in my opinion, so I don't take fictional horror very seriously. But, for what its worth, I can accept the fact that quite possibly some people may get a bit startled by the game at times.. My lil sister watched me play at one point, and she seemed a bit uneasy. It depends on the person.

My point is, I don't think this game is at all "Freaky" or "Scary" in any way. But it is a fun game nonetheless. Co-operative play is fun, and it spares you from some of the AI's stupidity, even though its rare, sometimes your partner isn't very obedient or logical. Taking cover was a bit awkward at first, but after a bit I got used to it, and it was handy.. Overall, RE6 has its problems just like 95% of games usually do, but that doesn't mean its altogether a "poor game" or even just a "fair game". I think its a "good game" that is "fun" and can be "enjoyed" by "people". Everyone is entitled to their opinion, this review is evidence of that truth. My opinion, Resident Evil 6 is a big upgrade from most of the predecessors, and we shouldn't compare games with their original classics because those are classics, they suck now, but they were the TITANS of back then. I think even though some people may be upset by the fact that Resident Evil 6 has no Horror Factor at all, its still an enjoyable game that you can play through and beat, and remember for how good its visuals were. So yes, I think this game was wronged by some reviewers, I think people should have opinions, but that doesn't mean I have to agree with them. Nuff Said.. Good Game in my opinion.

PARENT SECTION

Resident Evil 6 is rated M for Mature: Blood and Gore, Intense Violence, Nudity, Strong Language, Suggestive Themes.

Resident Evil is pretty bloody and fairly gory.. You will encounter infected soldier like people, zombies, beasts, etc. during the course of the game, you will be able to decapitate, dismember, and explode some of these people throughout the course of the game.. although some, especially the "explodable" ones are usually very creature like with green or sludgy like blood, and the infected humans vary in blood colour. Sometimes you'll find enemies with black blood, other times you will find enemies with red. The playable characters can be injured, and blood can stain their clothing, as well as spray out of them, enemies' (if you get enough headshots) heads explode into chunks that scatter about, and sometimes when killing enemies they will dissolve, sometimes in such a way that their head just dissolves off, or their arms and legs. It should be known that enemies begin to bubble up after a few seconds and dissolve into nothing but a puddle, or spark up and burn into embers that begin to fly up into the air before they completely disintegrate. There are still corpses to be seen, murders and feastings to be witnessed, and there is still LOTS O' blood to spill.

The game is complete violence 90% of the time. Just continuously killing and/or being killed.

The Nudity rating confuses me to a degree, there are a couple things to consider here. In both Ada and Leon's campaign you will face a boss that is a woman who grows spider like legs out of her back and rips and such, and she is wearing nothing, but there is no actual nudity to be seen, because she is very "blob" like (she actually looks like she is made out of jello sort of) and you cannot see any nipples or genitalia. The best way to describe her, is to say she looks like an ultra pale version of Mystique from the X-Men films with jello/pudding like skin, she also moans and caresses her breasts when she is damaged, and straddles you in a very seductive like manner before she ultimately tries to impale or gouge you in many different ways. Another instance of "nudity" is later in Leon's campaign, when watching a video, we see a girl break out of a cocoon like egg. She is naked, but the camera is out of focus, and the lighting is nearly pitch black, so we can only see a bit of light that reveals the shape of her body, and with the camera out of focus it makes it hard to even see that, and after that takes place, she falls to the floor into the light, but things are intelligently placed in the way of her nudity so we cannot see, and from another camera angle, an unknown figure's silhouette like leg obscures her nudity before the video ends. So again we see nothing.

For the suggestive themes and nudity there is one part in Jake's campaign (without spoiling anything) that has both of the characters poorly dressed, the female character is wearing a gown that reveals substantial cleavage, and her breasts are animated realistically where they jiggle and bounce with movement. Later on in this same sequence, the two characters begin to dress into decent clothing, and Jake peeks in Sherry who is only blocking is view with a locker door, her entire bare back is seen, and the camera cuts away just before we see anything, a few seconds later she is just putting on a button up shirt, and the camera looks at her from above when she has only just barely covered her nudity, and we see the most amount of cleavage possible before seeing nudity for a couple seconds before she begins to button up her shirt. There is then nothing else besides some formfitting outfits, and some cleavage to be seen from other female characters, which isn't anything you wouldn't see... anywhere.

The strong language is there, you will come across words like f**k, s**t, b**ch quite often... the F word is only used a few times throughout the course of all the campaigns, but s**t can be heard quite often, especially in Jake and Leon's campaigns. It is not a game for kids.. not at all, of course, I played mature games as a kid, and I ain't gonna judge anyone who lets their kids do the same. But if you are concerned about the content in this game, the Nudity isn't severe, and its not really even there, Partial Nudity would have been a much more accurate rating. But you still have a lot of disturbing graphic violence, language, and tricky camera angles barely avoiding female nudity a couple times if you are wondering what your kid/teen might be seeing. I hope ya'll enjoyed this review. Any comments or opinions would be appreciated.
