- Difficulty:
- Very Hard
- Time Spent:
- 10 to 20 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Immersive"
I was looking forward for this game, since I didn't have a PS2 back in 2001, it was hard to find this game but now I saw it very cheap.
It's good to know that this game offers more thant 50 hours of gameplay, that's something unique in this days and back in 2001, let's talk about the good things and the bad things.
THE GOOD: As I said 50 hours oi gamplay, some developers like the ones who did Call Of Duty 4, HALO 3, Crysis Warhead should learn from the guys who did this game.
Secondly this game is very addictive, each victory is very satisfying and defeat leaves you wanting more and settle things once and for all, the storyline is set in an altenrate world where Japan instead of Korea was divided into north and south in the 60s, this justifies the fact that the mechs you pilot called AFWs walk slow and their weapons take long to relaod.
The gameplay seems complex and it is, but you only have to use the directional buttons and the X button, sometimes the O button too, that's all, don't get too scared if you see too many numbers on the screens eventually you'll learn to understand them.
It a very nice combo of Turn based and real time strategy.
The sound is good, maybe not excellent, but it does the jod and the sound of diesel engines helps you undestand that THIS IS NOT A FUTURISTIC GAME, the concept of mechs of the 60s is very original.
THE BAD: the graphics are awful, even for 2001 standars, the textures are sub N64 quality, characters and scenarios must be made with a totoal of 1000 polygons for the entire game, by those days Konami sold their soul to SONY and turned the back on SEGA, to do this awful looking games you needed this "more powerful machine"?
You can't pause the game in the middle of a battle or in the map area, what were they thinking? this the PS2 not the Atari 2600...
The game is full of interruptions in the middle of battles you'll see animations of your soldiers and enemies that prevent you from taking the winning shot, also when doing a precision shot the sight moves too much, i didn't know mechs had the pulse of an alcoholic...
There's too much dialog...
I recomend this game, it has problems, yes, and it would be good to include some multiplayer feature, but as I said 50 hours of gameplay are worth the $10 usd it must cost this days

Japanese developers finally figured out a way to make robots...even in the 1950s...powered by diesel. Go figure.
