    So anyone found interesting stuff in ConfigDefault.xml (in the data folder) to improve the looks of the game?

    I tweaked the part with : ViewDistance="3"

    And changed it to 8.

    I'm not sure how much good it did, I think there are less pop ins than before.

    But what bothers me most is the vegetation increasing and decreasing size as you get closer. That's very disturbing. Any one found a good way to get rid of this?

    Don't hesitate to post good tweaks that can't be done from the graphic menus here either.

    hmm, interesting. game keeps a record of every crash to desktop that happens and saves them as a file.

    I hope there are some tweaks..from what I've read this game has similar pop-in to that of Amalur..which is the worst I have seen in a game ever.

    That game pissed me off because the devs claimed to make a PC specific game and have a team on it and blah blah but it was clearly limited by consoles.

    Otherwise..no reason for such severe pop-in.. I still played that game and got semi used to the pop-in..but eventually got burned out on it...

    So here's hoping the same fate isn't suffered here. Will pick up game after work and check it out.

    changing the view distance didn't seem to do anything. I've read about risen 1 config tweaks and it was stated that you need to delete your userprofile config, otherwise it won't use the new tweaks. that said, I can't find a user profile file, so that might be the case.

    my PC can handle the game easily on ultra settings already, I want a bigger view distance aka less popping. so I'd hear if someone was able to improve it.

    I am in the same boat as you. I really just want to improve this viewing distance, and the vegetation morphing or whatever it is.

    some stuff I think I've found out:

    changing viewdistance does not do anything as the number references the quality setting (off, low, medium, high, ultra)
    in general there seem to be many default "ultra" settings, but ingame you can only chose "high" for most.

    the config user file can be found under: C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Risen2\Config
    however I can't seem to get any change no matter if I delete it or what I change. I set the "view range from 10000 to 16000 and even 50000 and I can't make out a difference. what's bugging me most is actually not the vegetation but rather the "small object" popping. I'm standing 5 meter in front of a table and I barely see some stuff, while it is FULLY LOADED with lots of stuff when I stand right in front of it. objectcunning from 0.008 to 0.00008 didn't changed anything either so I'm at quite a lost here =/

    okay guys. something worked:

    before:
    http://www.abload.de/img/risen22012-04-2820-06liraz.jpg
    after:
    http://www.abload.de/img/risen22012-04-2820-18pkqd1.jpg

    do NOT delete C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Risen2\Config. instead change the values for quality to "ultra". that alone makes a huge difference.

    Are you talking about objects poping in (suddenly appearing) as you get closer? Trees,buckets,seashells etc?

    Game is freaking unplayable for me. I have tried changing every setting and a lot of tweaking in the xmls to not avail...

  • Apr 28, 2012 11:16 am GMT
    okay, did stopped the flickering nearly completely. popping up for objects is improved drastically.

    At which line?
    This one "ViewRangeQuality="High"" ?

    I'm frankly amazed as to how they released it like this. Seems the game has gotten many negative reviews from these graphical glitches and pop-ins.

    My settings are already "quality=ultra" for every "quality=" in the configuser.xml but the pop-in is terrible objects appear when i'm very close...

    you have to tweak quite some stuff to make it somewhat acceptable. one thing you can't seem to address is the range when the LOD changes.

    anyway, here is my tweaked config:

    https://rapidshare.com/files/1127751312/ConfigDefault.xml
    goes to => \Steam\steamapps\common\risen 2\data\ini\ConfigDefault.xml

    https://rapidshare.com/files/843546085/ConfigUser.xml
    goes to => C:\Users\name\AppData\Local\Risen2\Config\ConfigUser.xml

    Something weird.

    By changing C:\Users\NAME\AppData\Local\Risen2\Config

    ViewRangeQuality="High" to "...=Ultra"

    The pop in is better, but there is a lot of scintilating trees in the background... And some of the bushes at close range pop in closer than in "High".

    Just for the heck of it, I tried changing  to ultra the line with Preset="High"

                ViewRangeQuality="High"
            >

                        Preset="High"

    But the game will just crash after loading every time if you do.

    Awesome zUkUu this seems to do the trick for me. Everything looks great, my fps took a dip to 40 fro 55/60 though, but it's all right.
    Thanks man.

    zUkUu thanks! The game is at last playable! The pop-in decreased dramatically! Cheers! Hope the game will be more optimized in the future.

    maybe I'll play around some more to find an even better settings, but overall I'm fairly pleased for the moment. gonna test this some more first (and dang, I want to play the game for once xD).

    changing shadow from ultra to high gives you quite a boost btw.
  • Apr 28, 2012 9:00 pm GMT
    ZukUu, you're right, your configs really help. Thanks for them. The FPS is ridiculous though, even on my i5 2500k with a GTX 580..it drops me from 60+ to 40-60... Some spots are bad..and its not smooth.

    This engine is really, REALLY poorly optimized. Like Skyrim maybe it will be patched and improved as time passes with game patches and drivers.

    Thanks, works great. So far I went from 60+ fps to about 50+ fps... worth it though. Using a 570, i7 2600k (overclocked) and 8 gb ram btw.

    This is ridiculous, major pop-in, shadows flickering, and foliage randomly growing like I'm playing a f*cking Jack and the Beanstalk game. I can't play this until the issues are patched. I tried the ini tweaks but they've done virtually nothing for me. I've got a setup with dual GTX 460s and 16 GB of memory, the game shouldn't look this bad.
