Sacred 2: Fallen Angel User Review

You wanted S2 for the console, where here it is and the PS3 delivers it very very well!

The Bottom Line:
"Just plain fun"
I love it. I'm coming off of months of playing the PC version and the main reason I bought the PS3 version was for online play (which is terrible on the PC because of the separate nation servers). I played my favorite Seraphim up through the Sloeford quests and headed down the coast to run the pirate quests over towards my ultimate goal of running NW and hitting up the Grif before I head back and run to Thy. So here are my obeservations.

Interface: Yeah it's a bit odd. Takes about 30 minutes of play to get comfortable with it but once you get it it's not bad at all. It's probably easier for a PC player to pick up because we know what's what already, and the tutorial is very weak as far as giving advice. It's going to be a bit tough for new players to Sacred because there will be some trial and error finding things and using CA's and modding them is not exactly laid out in front of you. If you give it an hour or so you will pick it up though. It's not a deal-breaker at all and I found myself actually liking it by the time I hit level 5 or so. 7/10 for Interface.

Graphics: Running in 1080p on a Samsung 56 inch DLP TV and I have to be honest and say, I haven't seen any FR problems, tearing, or shadow glitching. The areas load seamlessly and I think I've seen maybe 1 or 2 1/4 second lags when transitioning. The game looks beautiful. Now, I am spolied by the Elite Texture pack on the PC, but to be truthful I don't find myself missing it all, however you will long for the unique weapon views of your inventory, as here they all have a generic icon to indicate type while in the console inventory, but once equiped they flash and flame and sparkle in all their radiant glory. I'm hearing a lot of buzz from the Xbox forums about bad FR problems and I breathe a sigh of relief that I bought for the PS3 because for whatever reason I'm not seeing them. The camera is my biggest pet peeve. I use the free camera mode on the PC and while the PS3 is adequate I miss not being able to get to eye level with my character and get a good look at what's up ahead, but again it's a very minor issue. Graphics 8/10

Sound: Fine. No issues here. It sounds like the PC version, except for the odd addition of the echo effect to some of the original voices. It's not bad, just..different. Music is the same, voice overs same, and of course the wonderful quirky oneliners (that I love) and still there. 8/10 for Sound which is the same I would give the PC version.

Combat: I don't get where people are saying there is "lag"... no..there isn't. The controls are very responsive, but you have to understand Sacred 2 CA's and their casting times. Some CA's have casting times that may be what people are experiencing. The combat it simple and straighforward. You press your primary combat key "x" and use the left stick to target whatever is close. If you want to fire off a CA or combo you map it to another button and you press it..it's that simple. My Seraphim was ripping through masses of kobolds with pelting strikes just as effectively on the PS3 as she would be on the PC. Looting took me by surprise though. You pretty much autoloot everything after a kill, which isn't bad because most of use hardcore Sacred 2 PC vets are use to pounding our Q button and doing the exact same thing anyway..they just took away the need to hit Q...although it is still there in the form of L1. Easy system, point and kill...hold to keep attack going...if you button spazz you need to stop it, S2 doesn't work that way. Held mouse on PC = continued attack..held X on PS3= continued attack. Combat 9/10 for staying true to S2/S1 combat model.

Overall I would give the game a solid 8/10..at least on the PS3. I'm not seeing the "gambreaking" FR problems that seem to be rampant on the green machine. This looks like Sacred, feels like sacred, plays somewhat like Sacred, and sounds like Sacred so my itch has been scratched and I can see months of thong wearing Seraphim badassness with loot O plenty in my future.
