Saints Row: The Third User Review
- Difficulty:
- Easy
- Time Spent:
- 40 to 100 Hours
- The Bottom Line:
- "Just plain fun"
This game does not take itself seriously. Story, presentation, and other elements of the game are over-the-top, in a fun way. The dialog and interaction between the characters are funny, in a "make fun of the stereotype" way, although that sparkle I thought drops off deeper you get into the game.
This game really is just about entertainment. Some of the elements don't fit or are just plain ridiculous. But that's what this game is about.
It's a fun game. The difficulty isn't high, you get to customize yourself, your cars, and your gang, and you get to blow stuff up.
The only cons are that there are some bugs in the game. In addition to some visual bugs, like guns frozen in mid-air, certain missions expect you to approach a certain way. If you try to get creative and do it some other way, you may not trigger the expected sequence. Also, when you switch your weapon load-out, you seem to lose ammo. So do it at the gun store where you can just buy more ammo.
Personally, I find the activities boring. Some may be amusing, but that amusement wears off quickly, especially when you take on the higher difficulty versions of the same activity. What I like the most outside of the main missions are the "clearing gang activities", and when you get a phone call and have to fight off x number of waves of attacks. Unfortunately, those cannot be repeated or cannot be triggered at will (you have to wait for your phone to ring). The reason is that the activities limit you, while the "clear gang activity" and phone call events, you get to use your full arsenal - choose your posse, and call back-up, whatever you have at your disposal to get the job done... i.e. the results of your "hard work" building up your gang.
Overall, entertaining game, even casual gamers will get a kick out of it. But people that are sensitive to political correctness probably won't enjoy it.

A bombastic and fun game that's worth playing, but could be improved upon.

This game doesn't take itself seriously, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't.
