This looks like it would be fun, but what turns me away is a set number of skills. Going from wow using 20 different skills at once and having the choices to use them in one fight I think is what made wow so fun. I been looking at this game for awhile now but the skills just kills it for me sorry.

Kevin VanOrd goes on tour with Mike Donatelli in WildStar, an MMO RPG coming from Carbine Studios.
Visually doesn't look bad, but I've done this too many times before. It's just a mesh of previous MMOs. There is nothing at all new here. Again trinity classes, same combat system, quests to kill and loot, jumppuzzles,...
ZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZZZZzzzzzzzzz...
I know the developers spent a years of their life making this, and now they need to sell it to justify this not only to their producers, but also to themselves. I acknowledge all that hard work, and I won't even say it looks bad, but then again, you made all the safe choices. I'm tired of playing the same game in yet another jacket.
Where is the gamesdeveloper who will take a gamble and really innovate this genre? Reinvent combat, or even don't do any combat, but propose us something else. Reinvent exploring a world. Reinvent improving your character (maybe I physically evolve, maybe training moves for a thousand times alters/improves the move as in Shenmue). And I mean go waaaay out of the box, I don't even want to recognise the game on first look as an MMO. Put all the MMO GUIs next to each other since Everquest, they are all the frigging same, map, skillbuttons, hp/mp/xp bars. This industry is so stuck in it's conventions that it doesn't remember what originality even means.
A fantasy themed MMORPG with cartoony graphics? How did they ever come up with this new and amazing idea?
looks more like wow than anyother mmo i've seen to date lol, if i wanted to play wow i would just go back to that.
@Bhemont @gaubanrei lol your saying that doesn't look like a sci-fi wow ? then it really dose take one to know one.
I'll give it a try if it's free, I like the Sci-fi theme it has and combat looks interesting enough.
looks generic and kid-oriented. That "layer" thing he's been constantly refering to as their strong point has been done before -it's called sub-quests, promotion quest, guild quests. You want to get my attention? Show a good skill system, show me an interesting story and beautiful world to actually explore. Get rid of the monster spawn and grind. Tell me you have a bazilion weapons and armor ingame. Tell me it's hardcore and you get to permadie or something. But NOT this game you just presented
I like the overall look of the game but yea, this zone really....really looks too much like Durotar from WoW.
interesting stuff... but there are a lot of options and not enaugh time for all : TERRA , swtor and lots more
Perhaps it is the "I cant reveal this that and the other" responses that are killing me, but I just don't see where this game is different from any other RPG. Games today can't be "kinda" different from one another for people to play it. They literally have to create their own unique rules. Even if I'm not seeing everything this games has to offer, I'v seen enough :-/
@SiniStar121, If you dont see how its different then you have not really looked at it. Paths alone should make you as a gamer happy. Fact that 1/2 their staff is doing nothing but working on end game content should make you ecstatic. Not a standard 3 tree talent system. Every class has no less then 2 roles, giving every class lots of options. There stat system how it functions with what skills you get, very unique. The make your own castle for large scale PvP battles again unique. At this point we know only a very little about the game and what we do know is mostly unique and what is not unique is up to date with all new modern MMOs. Jumping puzzels, explore missions, dodging mechanics, sprint, vistas.
@Nanfoodle @SiniStar121 - Its simply not enough. Classes? Every MMO has some kind of class system. End game content? Every MMO wants to keep the player playing once they get to level cap. Unique skills? Every MMO "claims" to have unique skills. And fun. Every MMO wants to be fun, and in the beginning have good intentions, but eventually they all fall in the same basket because its safe. And this doesnt look like a game that took very many risks to do something refreshing. Can you not tell by the art style... Does it not look VERY similar to something you have already seen for years already?
@SiniStar121, Art looks like WoW thats got a modern upgrade. <<<shrugs>>> not sure how thats bad as it looks great and timeless. Real looking art looks bad a few years later. So I think they went the right way. As for risks. I dont agree its needed. We seens lots of MMOs take risks and they didnt work. What needs to be done it take things we MMOer enjoy and give them to us in a want thats innovative and refreshing. Like we all know there is a few game play styles we all fit into. I mostly like exploring, my wife is all about picking flowers and finding ways to make things with them. My brother is all about killing stuff new ways. The path system is something new but taken from what works. This is the kind of thinking games need to take.
As for end game, most companies don t work on their elder game till close to launch and its butchered 1/2 backed content and we MMOs feel it. Wildstar has said they have a years worth of end game direction and content already being developed. Thats no small thing. This is different as no MMO has done that yet. Not even the great WoW. You want risk, I just want what works and packaged in a way that makes me want to play. Wildstar is doing just that.
I am getting an Old Republic feel from this game. It seems similar in terms of art, environments etc. It really looks like the same old same old. MMORPG's are really getting blue cheese stale.
Same 'ol same 'ol from the MMORPG genre. Where's that lame argument about how all MMOs aren't the same now, Kevin?
@StaticPenguin I think I know where you're coming from. I'm suffering from MMO fatigue too.
I picked up GW2 last year but I think I might be done with the genre unless something truly amazing pops up.
They still aren't saying a whole lot. I like what I have seen but, give me some more info.
It actually looks like WoW with a bit of GW2 combat mixed in. Might be fun if the combat is mostly action oriented like TERA. The telegraph system seems to give a bit too much info. But a non fantasy game is a must fantasy has been beaten to death now.
im a little interested in this game because im BORED of all the MMOs out there... i only play it if it is F2P thought, and yea it look a LOT like WOW
Looking at the game, will there be settings that will push my GTX 680s in SLI? I've never been able to keep interest in cartoony-looking MMOs (WoW, SWToR).
Looks like they are going after casual and mainstream audience. I bet you won't even need a mid-range PC to run this game. Anybody knows if there is going to be subscription fees?
Naaaaaah ... i pass... another cartoony like mmorpg with mediocre battle system... It looks bad imho
Whats the point of an action mmo if you know EXACTLY where the enemy is going to strike? The combat looks fun, but you guys went the lazy route with the attack indicators, instead of adding effects around the ground you just overlayed the area of effect with a red color. Give us at least a little challenge.
@N1njaSol1d Yeah hopefully that is just there for development or they add some option to disable that if its in the release version
@jinzo9988 Yeah, looks VERY old. But you know how MMOs are, they need a large player base, most people have bad computers, etc, etc.
Looks very grindy, taking that long to kill a little mob, how long will it take to kill a boss? An hour?
@JudgeJehovah He said he was spawning them and that they were sort of like elites. He is using developer cheats.
this will probably be my last MMO. if it is good, i will play it for years. if it is bad, i will probably never play an MMO again.
i know everyone is all excited for archeage.... but honestly i feel like this game has more going for it.
