    I installed SMAC on my computer, and started a new game got through maybe 60-70 turns when the game crashed, saying the game did not support my PC (if only i had come to this forum first), for a fix i went to updates in the main menu and installed patch v4.0 (actually I forget the order, maybe i installed the patch before the problem). Anyways, it wasn't working so i tried to reinstall the game but whenever i click install it just sits there for 1-2 minutes then the program closes. After more unsuccessful attempts i went into the cd (via explore) and found a folder called patch. since the game worked before the patch i'm thinking of deleting it. (inside the folder is the alternate colour and borehole scenarios). So my question is should i delete the folder or will that mess up the cd? If not any fixes?

    You can't delete files off of a CD, they're read-only...

    Nope, you can just copy the directory over and it should work fine.

    SMAC... One of my favorite games. Bought a Dell Mini 10. Installed game from original disk. Ran 4.0 patch. Ran XP compatibility patch. Go to Alpha Centauri.ini, which is blank because the game hasn't run yet, and add line ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm=1.

    Still get the black screen, then "Terran.exe has encountered an enexpected error and needs to close."

    Has anybody figured this out yet?

    There is a good chance you don't need to put in the ForceOldVoxelAlgorithm line on an Intel Atom, so take it out and try.

    So, has anyone tried this on Windows 7?
  • Dec 14, 2009 7:46 am GMT

    Sadly, after a certain stage of the game, the game crashes when air units decide to attack me, they re so many that crash is inevitable, this is the worst thing about this game, we can't really play for a long time because every time this crash problem is creating problems..

    And there's no patch fo fix that up..

    What a shame, would anyone know how to fix this?

    There are a couple of options.

    1) Just attack the air units first. The crash happens the most when air units have to scramble and the least when you attack a city with the air units in it.
    2) Remove the prototype for anti-aircraft from the AI. It isn't really needed, after all.

    Well it happened a long time after I started playing, like 150 years after at least.

    Well as for the options, isn't there a non official patch or something to fix that up?

    I can't believe that there's nothing we can do to play normally!

    When I say 150 years, I mean 150 turns, of course..

    So I got this all working at last, but the first menu where you pick between Classic and AC is really laggy, everything else works fine, not a huge issue, just a pet peeve.

    If anyone knows why this it that would be cool.

    Just ignore the menu.
    terranx.exe = Alien Crossfire.
    terran.exe = Alpha Centauri.

    Just run whichever one you want.
