Is the latency problem fixable?

Did you try the calibration under the options menu? 'Cause that's all I can think of, unless they (have/do) come out with an update. Of course you'll have to connect to the internet for that.

What kind of AV connection are you using? HDMI?
If so, you can either try changing the video processing settings, or else use an external speaker system. I did the latter, and it worked a treat.
