Gameplay? Online?

So, I'm an adult looking to get into this series.

I'm not sure if I assumed it was kid-based because of the toy side of things, but I've recently heard that the game feels a lot like a Gauntlet game or RPG dungeon crawler.

I'm wondering what the multiplayer is like. Is it entirely cooperative? Local and online? Are the quests simple?

The idea is truly genius for the RPG platforming genre... you get to buy a continuous stream of characters with different skill sets? Next up, Spyro Skylanders-like MOBA game on PC.
