Soldier of Fortune: Payback User Review
Possibly the worst first person shooter I've played in a long time.

Soldier of Fortune Payback is a first person shooter from Activision Value in which players assume the role of Derrick Masson a soldier for hire that goes on a series of jobs to various places to kill people and retrieve things of a dangerous nature. The story of Soldier of Fortune Payback is very weak and the ending will leave players feeling cheated and with more questions than answers. Furthermore there is more than one character named Derrick that players will meet during the course of that game and this may confuse players to quite an extent.
Soldier of Fortune Payback's graphics are ok but not as high of quality as they should be. Graphically speaking players may feel like this game would have been better suited to the Xbox and not to the current generation of consoles. Surfaces, scenery and even the guns seem to be lacking both depth and texture but it varies in each of the three. Guns seem to be lacking texture and that sort of oomph that would make them pop and stand out. Surfaces and scenery lack depth and to some extent detail.
Soldier of Fortune Payback's gameplay is easily the worst part about the entire game. The AI is dumb in that the enemies will occasionally run right up to players and start hitting them rather than shoot them. Furthermore enemies don't seem to make use of cover that often and when they do it's rare. Players have no way to tell how much health they have at any given point and are forced to figure out the health system on their own. Controls feel bad as the duck button is on the D-pad rather than a click of a thumb stick. Players will get killed multiple times trying to get through even one area at times.
Soldier of Fortune Payback's audio isn't that impressive either. Guns don't really sound like guns and the voice acting sounds terrible at times. It almost sounds like they were recording using bad equipment at times.
Overall Soldier of Fortune Payback is one that players should avoid at all costs. It's a waste of money and it's over in under 6hrs.
