- The Bottom Line:
- "Disappointing"
Sonic unleashed is a badly made hack 'n' slash game that really no body enjoyed very much.....
Gameplay - Gameplay in Sonic Unleashed focuses on two modes of platforming play: fast-paced levels that take place during daytime, showcasing Sonic's trademark speed as seen in previous games in the series, and slower, night-time levels, during which Sonic's Werehog form emerges, and gameplay switches to an action-based, brawler style of play, in which Sonic battles Gaia enemies (those created by the main enemy in the game, Dark Gaia). Each level takes place on a particular continent, each of which have been modelled on real-world locations (e.g. Europe is 'Apotos' and 'Spagonia', Africa is 'Mazuri', North America is 'Empire City', Asia is 'Chun-nan', Antarctica is 'Holoska', Middle East is 'Shamar' and Southeast Asia is 'Adabat'). In sections of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 versions of the game, the player may choose to advance the time of day in order to play as either Sonic or the Werehog; in the PlayStation 2 and Wii versions, time is advanced automatically. The werehog levels are what let this whole game down for me, sonic was made to RUN! not to claw little cute glowly things faces off!
Graphics - The graphics in this game in HD are actually quite good looking. Especially in the daytime levels. But cutscenes don't look any different visual-wise to the actuall in-game footage. Theres a few flaws here and there were you can actually see peices of far away background missing.
Sound - All the effects and music are good enough to keep you entertained and bobbing in your seat! The music in the daytime levels for example is very awesome! READY.......GO!
Replay Value - Very small chance you would actually pick this game up again and use it. Its enough to keep you en-grossed for a while. But I put the game down for a few months before actually coming back to it. And when I did I was a little bored.
Score Breakdown:
Gameplay - 4
Graphics - 7
Sound - 6
Replay Value - 2
Overall - 4.5
Fans of the series will find this game very dissapointing and ashamed to actually call it a sonic game. Newcomers to the series may be put off for good! Be aware.
