On January 19 2011, Nintendo of America and Nintendo of Europe gave some official details for the 3DS launch in their respective territories. In North America, the 3DS will be available on March 27, 2011 for a retail price of $250. In Europe, the system will be available on March 25 and pricing will be left to the discretion of retailers.
From a hardware standpoint, it doesn't seem like there's a whole lot different from what we saw when it was first revealed at E3. The top screen is still used for the 3D imagery, which can be adjusted via a slider to the right side of the screen. There's a single camera lens on the inside of the unit and two on the outside case for taking 3D images as well. Additionally, the 3DS still has the single analog pad, D pad, two shoulder buttons, and four face buttons. The system also features an accelerometer and a gyroscope, which are being used in games like Steel Diver. Battery life is currently clocked around three to five hours for 3DS-specific games, but if you're primarily playing original DS games on the unit, you'll get about five to eight hours out of the battery.
