BEST NINTENDO DS GAME
The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass was basically a known quantity going into E3, given that we had the Japanese import in the office a good couple of weeks or more before the show even started. But we were already so impressed with the game--even before we were able to read it--that it would have been hard for any other DS game to top it. Indeed, E3 revealed some really impressive games on Nintendo's scrappy little handheld-that-could, but none topped the excitement that the latest Zelda engendered.
Zelda: Phantom Hourglass
Many of us were saddened when Nintendo discarded the radical new look of The Wind Waker and went back to a realistic art style for Twilight Princess, so we were just as elated to see that whimsical style return in Phantom Hourglass. Even more exciting, though, is the game's intuitive touch screen-only control system, which sounded constraining on paper but turned out to be liberating. Now you can direct Link, control his swordplay, and use all his trademark abilities--some to an even greater level of precision--simply by pointing and slashing with the stylus. We can't wait for the game to hit stores in October.
