Starkiller's powers are greater than ever, but if he thinks Darth Vader is the only one hunting him, he'd better think again.
When we got our first look at a gameplay demo for Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II a few weeks ago, we heard about the improved targeting system and a few cool new Jedi powers (not to mention dual lightsabers). This week, at E3 2010, we got a closer look at the same demo and also saw a dramatic new trailer that shed some light on what Starkiller will be up against in this space-faring sequel. View the intense, lightsaberriffic trailer below and read on for some new insights into Starkiller's escape from the industrial cloning complex on Kamino.
During our walk-through of the demo, we got a better idea of the increased Force powers that Starkiller will be able to wield. The new Jedi mind trick ability has a number of amusing results. Some enemies will merely flee from you, while others will fling themselves into oblivion. Still other will freak out and begin blasting their buddies, who in turn blast them in self-defense. That isn't the only bit of humorous mayhem you'll encounter, though. All the enemies have been redesigned, including the jetpack stormtroopers who, when struck with force lightning, now zoom off and spiral out of control, eventually exploding in a burst of flame. Starkiller can now cut off his enemies limbs from time to time, so expect to be pleasantly surprised when your lightsabers actually lop off a few heads.
Another new Force power that reflects Starkiller's strength is an extension of the Force grab. You can now crush mechanical enemies (like AT-STs) and ships into compact balls of wreckage and fling them wherever your heart desires. The crushing animations look really sharp and are very satisfying. Our demoer used his crumpled-up wad of metal to topple a towering spire and made himself a handy little bridge.
The last notable addition we'll mention is Force fury. When Starkiller is appropriately powered up, you can unleash Force fury and exponentially increase the effectiveness of your Force powers. Flinging a squad of 10 stormtroopers is no problem at all, but the most impressive demonstration came when our demoer busted out his lightsabers. Force fury turns all your melee attacks into projectile attacks, and we watched as he literally carved up 20 stormtroopers (there were limbs and heads flying all over the place) with a few throws of his lightsabers.
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed II looks as impressive as ever, and it once again appears to be well on its way to capturing the intoxicating power of the Jedi. One bonus note: We were told that levels will load in the background during the cutscenes that precede them, so load times should be significantly decreased. With all the improvements at work, we can't wait to get our hands on those dual lightsabers and try the game for ourselves. We'll be sure to tell you all about it.
Starkiller is surely looking pissed off. He's a Sith but why is he using blue sabers? Did vader give him blue sabers? This is sux, I loved to play as Sith.
Visual equivalent of chugging 10 cans of Red Bull while freefalling at 10,000 feet. This is AWESOME!!!!
Day one buy on my Xbox360 for sure on my next paycheck! Going to pre order this and Reach, but I may buy up some other games as well in the intrum over Live, HydroThunder, and Tango Down FTW. XBL has some of the best shooters, and MP arcade games ever made. "Cough.............cough" Shadow Complex................. "Cough!"
@nexus yes he did die the starkiller we see here is a clone vader made....in one of the trailers we see at the end that he has dozens more of these clones
If only they would have a game where lightsabers were not sparkly melee bashing weapons.... I want to see severed limbs and heads dammnit!!!
ok I havnt been following the game too much ( I tend to not to, makes the games more exciting when you play em the first time), so I have a rather HUGE question that NEEDS answering... Ok, we can totally assume that the saga changing story elements introduced the good ending (which i fully assume is canonical), so um I cant do this without spoilers... DIDNT HE DIE? I havnt played the game since it came out but I beat it both ways and while he lives in the dark ending the good ending is cannon (or at least I assume it is). Now I may be just mistaken or they might pull some he didnt REALLY die even though he totally did die we just coped out and brought him back cause he's awesome, which he is. I assume thats what happens, and Ill be fine with that I guess. Im not a huge starwars nerd or anything. I like the universe and the story fromt he first game made the transition between ep3 and new hope awesome. but if anyone can in anyway answer my question shoot me a msg, i've been pondering this since the game was announced..
will probably actually buy this, loved the first - but saw no point of buying; not much to do after beating the game except beating it again. Hope there's more to do after the game is beat. looks awesome though!
I have only one question, will there be a dual mode like the the part 1 had on the WII? If so, this can't go wrong anymore.
This game looks so Good. dang i want it. looks way better than the first one with more of a story line as well. not to mention dual lightsabers and decapitation. when it comes out i'll be there in line waiting. Dont disappoint Starkiller!!
c'mon ...agreed it wasnt as good as kotor but it was decent .....plus i am just glad they made a starwars game ....i even more coz it has a sequel
We all have been waiting for a star wars game to call our own. I hope this new game lets us make our own Jedi and customize them so we can embark on our own journey. Add multiplayer and they will finally have a good game. But so far it looks good. I just don't know why they would make multiplayer for the wii and not xbox and ps3.
The loading during videos and Jetpack troopers blowing up due to force lightning were both in the original game. It would be nice if someone who actually played the original game where here to review it.
That's good, it looks so unrealistic to slice enemies with your lightsaber and they never come apart, other than that it doesn't look that much different from the first. I think this one needs an online multiplayer with customizable playable characters.
Get the graphics beefed up to look next gen (unlike the last one) and you will have a sure purchase from me.
it looks cool. but not much of an improvement from the first game... just new enemies and added perks (decapitation and dual sabers, etc.) its also weird that the first slice of an attack you make on a trooper doesnt slice him in half like it should.... if this game was combined with red faction guerrilla and gears of war, it would be amazingly fun and gory
Looks freakin' sweet!! It's awesome that you can chop off limbs. I was really hoping they would implement that. I see they decided to bring back those annoying holocrons. Getting all of them in the last one was such a pain!
The first game was lots of fun despite its flaws. If this game ships with the polish the first one never got it could be pretty epic.
If i were them, i would make StarKiller having the ability to combine both the 2 light saber to a duel-LightSaber
The first one was fun and he was pretty unstoppable by the end of that one... but this just looks BADASS.
If you look at it, he does almost the same moves as god of war but less gore. Like when he killed the robots you could practicly see the button symbols appearing.
The cinematic was stunning and the stage demo was good, kinda looks the same game though with new attacks.
i wish there was a way you could just use force powers if you want and just keep the lightsabers in your belt.
I admit the game looks better, but the limbs were not coming off in any great number. Sure there were arms all over the place, but who cares when you dice an enemy in half?
The cinematic was super cool. Though it shows nothing about the game, i LOVED the way they showed his cold, merciless expression.
