We try out Capcom's PC conversion of its Street Fighter revival.
Capcom had the PC version of Street Fighter IV on hand at its recent European press event. The game is a conversion of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 version of the game that was released this past February. The conversion is faithful to the look and handling of the console games and sports some minor tweaks for the PC. We got some hands-on time with the game and were pleased by how it's looking.
Street Fighter IV on the PC will feature all the modes and characters found in the home version of the game, so you can plan on a host of single-player and multiplayer modes to sink your teeth into. The game is Windows Live compatible, so PC owners who pick it up can expect the same achievements and downloadable content offerings that have been made available in the weeks following its release for the Xbox 360. The one tweak to the DLC is that while specific plans are still being finalized, it sounds as though the content may be bundled up into one costume pack offering. While a nice touch, we reckon PC owners might have appreciated having it all thrown in for the price of the game since they've had to wait a few extra months, but so goes the joy of DLC.
The game was running on a respectably powered laptop and ran just as well as its console cousins. The visuals were also on par with those in the console versions, although we were told there would be some improvement in the shader effects, depending on your video card. As far as control goes, the laptop the game was running on had an Xbox 360 controller and the most awesome Mad Catz wired gamepad. In addition, you can expect the game to support the Mad Catz Xbox 360 arcade sticks, which should cover everyone's control needs.
Based on what we played, Street Fighter IV for the PC is shaping up to be a solid conversion of the console games. Given the state of fighting games on the PC, SFIV should be a welcome option for PC owners looking to bust some tail. Street Figher IV is currently slated to ship this summer for the PC.
What about online multiplayer? Will we need to surrender to the disgusting pay to play services of Windows Live?
I have this for xbox 360 and I dont play it anymore.I dont know how anybody using PC will buy a fighting game lol.
Rented the 360 game and I really like it. I'll probably be getting the PC version since 1. I want to test my laptop's gaming abilities, and 2. it's coming out in a month.
@ memitojeremy Hey not every pc version of a console game has good keyboard/mouse controls, in fact quite alot are rather terrible, especially capcoms games. I bought a pc game controller for just that reason and not a day goes by that I regret it. I own a ps3 and have a very nice hdtv but I also have a pc that is still better than that setup and I always prefer it for my gaming needs. Why play the inferior version of a game when you could be playing the superior.
why is it that everyone has a -one...???..... Looks like a console fan boy was locking at the posts..lol
I played this on the 360 it was alright but nothing special, other than the use of the street fighter characters and moves. Got bored after a while. I had planned to pick this up on PC but now with the hype has gone I think I'll pass. Lol many of you probs wont agree but I feel the same way about RE5.
this and resident evil 5 please for pc. Im never EVER going to own another console so this and RE5 would be great. PC's are just too awesome. What would be overly awesome is if they released a FIGHT NIGHT for PC. I would so buy Fight night 4 if it came to pc. Imagine that online for pc gamers, it would be fabulous.
Considering the original arcade machine is a PC with ATI/nvidia for graphics and running an embeded form of winxp, if anything, the PC version of the game should have been the first to release. Literally all that was required was some minor tweaks, removal of the original arcade's protection algorithm and creation of an installer.
@ chingolofire This is a 2D fighter. It just has 3D graphics, much like New SMB was a 2D platformer with 3D characters. I've been waiting for this release. It's gonna be a lot of fun.
I suppose the brainless comment from 008Zula has made PC geeks angry. Take a look at last remnant with people using P4 and a nvidia 7 series card.
WTH is a "respectably powered laptop" ? If console to pc conversions to date are any indication, it'll need to be liquid nitrogen cooled overclocked to 6Ghz cpu and quad sli/crossfire to get decent fp/s.
damn right i happy they put it on pc but i wish they put all the system to play with any system that be real cool
Been waiting to hear info on this port and I'm glad it's turning out good, cuz ports from console to PC usually seem to have trouble keepin themselves together haha. I dnt hav a 360 but I played this game all the time at my friends, luckily i got a sick rig so I can't wait for this PC version!
Same, I don't have a 360 but I play this game all the time at my friends but I got a kickass rig so I'm ready for this! PC ftw.
Excellent! I was really hoping they;d make it on games for windows - LIVE Woot, Finally will have more then 3 games to get achievements for... And judging from DMC4 PC port, I have high hopes it will be an excellent port :D
I really wish they brought SFIV (or other SFs to PSP).... I am currently running emulators to play them and SFA3 (while good) is a bit boring now.
@houtx1836 I commited double treason and bought a PS3 and an XBox 360 :/ I broke down when GTA IV came out. Crysis FTW on PC forever, though
CAPCOM CAN WE GET RE5 FOR THE P.C. TO
SWEET. HOPE IT WILL GET ALL THE DLC. I HOPE IT WILL BE A WINDOWS LIVE GAME
I cant wait!! I'm a fan of Street Fighter since SF2 first appeared in the arcades and I'm a heavy PC Gamer. Hope you bring MvsC2 to the PC as well. I spent years playing MvsC2 in the arcades. Rock on Capcom!
It should be pretty cool. Just use a 360 controller and you should have the same experience. Unless you already have a full blown arcade joystick for PC....You can always just make one!
It's too bad we (PC Gamers) have to wait for titles like this to trickle down to us - maybe I will have to commit treason and buy a 360.
