Yeah so Super Metroid is one of the most classic, atmospheric, and exciting sidescroller ever made filled with mystery and illusions.
Gameplay:
Gameplay is very smooth especially if you've come from the origional Metroid or Return of Samus. With the ability to upgrade items in order to search out secrets and accomplish your objective. This makes for an incredible and lengthy game worthy of an oscar. The levels are very well created and diverse and the hidden extras/areas are unique and cool. The boss fights are amazing and the map system makes the game easier to navigate. It's just so cool to get a new upgrade knowing you can explore the places you've found but couldn't go into because of your lack of equipment. (think of the X-ray scope!!) There are many surprises and shocks to make you remember this game well into the future. It still holds up in this day and age which proves it is a worthy testament to a well made game.
Graphics:
The graphics are great. Samus looks very detailed, we see her suit shine and the details of her armor. The backgound is very detailed as well and the enemies are creative and vicous. We see awesome effects when Samus uses her speed booster and her space jump with her screw attack. The effects are awesome!! With missles exploding and a boss that disappears and reappears. We are able to see rain and explore under water and into lava. This makes for an incredible visual experience.
Sound:
Sound is very good as well. We hear an awesome soundtrack that matches the situations and atmosphere very well. The effects sound really well for example when the mosnters scream or a missle explodes. I really like the low health, as well as the beam sounds. Once again the music in this game fits so perfectly and is one of the best soundtracks in oldschool games ever. And who did't sing to the track each time you received a new item. lol
Bottom Line:
This game was an inspiration for most every action/rpg we have today. We see the ultimate example in Castlevania SOTN. You seriously need to play this game. My review doesn't do a damn thing for what the game can tell you itself. It is an incredible experience to play through this game and figure out all the surprises. Chances are when you beat it you'll see that you missed some things which makes you want to go back and have a look. That's what I look for in a game. This game is one of the best games ever made and would be in my top 10.
PLAY IT!! It's worth an SNES purchase!!!!

Take out anything frustrating from the first two Metroid titles, enhance the depth, and you instantly get Super Metroid.
