How can I use an Apple gel?

There isn't a tutorial required. Open the menu and choose Item, then click A on the Apple Gummi and then A again to pick the character you want it to use on. In-battle, the character you have selected for the Item Menu needs the AD Skill "Item User" to use it on anybody else.
Life Bottles don't count, as every character can use them on anybody.
