- The Bottom Line:
- "Disappointing"
I'll be completely honest, I love the Tekken series, but when it comes down to it, Tekken 6 is very disappointing, well that is for PSP owners anyway. Despite it's extra characters, new arenas and improved graphics, Tekken 6 can't really be classed as 'better than Tekken 5'. In fact it's really a hit 'n' miss situation.
The fighting remains the same, despite a few new moves with some characters, it mostly keeps within the Tekken 5 boundries. Each character looks the same, and you can still customise your character using the improved customisation menu. The modes available for you are arcade, story, ghost battle, gold rush, survival and practise... of course there is always the ad-hoc mode which happens to be missing game sharing and has a limited amount of arenas for you to choose from. I'm not saying all's bad in Tekken 6, but it is disappointing to see some things missing.
There's always an upside to a downside with Tekken. Load times are fast, especially if you data install the game, but it really isn't all that necessary. The graphics seemed to be improved from the last Tekken on the PSP, and the new characters are rather good in their own way. The ghost battle is perhaps the mode you're gonna be most visiting. It consists of an endless series of battles where battles can be stacked and ranks can be gained. It's definately addictive at it's most, but the better you get, so do your opponents, so don't run before you can walk.
So it's really a case of whether you're willing to give up modes such as Tekken Dojo and the ad-hoc game sharing for the next game up. You'll be experiencing the same good ol' Tekken, but at a cost.

Tekken is back on the PSP, and despite the lack of gameplay modes, and online mode. Its still a very good game.

Is Tekken 6 as great as Tekken Dark Resurrection, or does it fall flat?
