Test Drive Unlimited 2 Video Review

It's funny to hear KVO using Ms. Douglas' words in this review.  She has a very British tone in her writing and it's interesting to hear it with an American accent.  

I live in Oahu and you could my view is biased, I think game is pretty fricking sweet. Just exploring the island in your ferrari.

i bought this game last year and i think its actualy pretty good in my view

I agree with this review: "Test Drive Unlimited 2" does have odd control response issues & it did have some multi-player online problems at launch time, but none of those problems really ruin the entire racing experience, well at least not for me. The amount of content to unlock is staggering, but well-worth it. TDU2 is not nearly as bad as some people have said it is. Definitely worth a buy for racing fans.

This missed a big amount of the game in the review in my opinion... You could go into any manufacturer showroom and spend hours looking at the cars, then the detail on the cars and moving parts (like indicators and soft tops) is brilliant... but mainly the fact that its the only game of its kind really, a game with real car licensing and 2 massive maps to drive around in is hard to find these days

I really liked the 1st one. This one I haven't played enough yet, but I think they should had some "server-based" multiplayer instead of the nearby guys again. It would be much more competitive if you could compare yourself to others in the same server-island like "oh, i know this guy, he was driving a ferrari yesterday"

Sounds about right.

Meh, you can't put people into the cityscape that easily in a car game. If people are on the streets, they can be hit by player cars. if this happens, game rating will be immediately yanked up by ESRB. Its better off without pedestrians. I am enjoying this game a lot, but I'm not a race gamer. So at least for casual type of gamer TDU2 delivers. Now if they'd pump out the patch sooner to fix networking.

other review sites have rated it far worse than a 7, i think it all depends on how much of a perfectionist you are. GTA IV had many pop-up problems & texture issues, the frame rate also took a hit when things got hectic with the coppers, but it still scored well high as the gameplay, controls, story, etc were all done to perfection. Haven't played this one, but the similarities seem that like GTA IV they have gone for grand scale which could excuse the graphical glitches, only if the gameplay was awesome & the controls were tight. Seems fair true?

And also, the PC version is far superior, hands down.

To Kevin's defense, he did seem to be stepping in for another reviewer, and was forced to do the review on a limited amount of time. Either way, I think he captures the essence of the game well.

PLEASE please start reviewing RACING games with proper equipment. Retry it with a steering wheel and then come back to mock the driving mechanics! Seriously.. I myself use it on PS3 with a Driving Force GT and it ROCKS! Hardcore is REALLY difficult. The quick arcadey style steer snapping happens because the controller uses immediate input: letting go of the analog stick INSTANTLY centers the steering wheel. Taking this game for a spin with a force feedback wheel will solve this issue in a beautiful way!! Try for yourself!!

This review is horrible... It doesn't talk much about each feature and the reviewer doesn't give enough information of why it should be a 7 instead of like 8 or 8.5. Gamespot needs better reviewers

They have made guys look a bit like the stereotypical gay but the driving looks good which is the main reason for buying this game, I think I will give it a go though.

this game is like a bad girlfriend, its got loads of problems but not quite big enough to get rid of it.

omfg you cant compare this game to any other, this game is nothing like GT5 lol.GT5 is slow and boring alll u see is open field and the track over and over and your stuck on the track.TDU2 had 5,000 km of roads to drive on and the driving physics are great in this game some cars arnt meant to hit corners fast.

would have been a better game if they focused on less different gamestyles

@gut_eater Could've been a bit more subtle but I have to agree. I hope the framerate is a better than what I just watched in the video. It's a beautiful game and seems like exactly the open-world experience I've been looking for ever since I completely memorized Paradise City. However, personally, a lower framerate (especially in a game where I'd be barreling through the streets at 60+ mph) could mar the experience a bit. Definitely checking it out, though.

Just bought it and loving it so far. The driving is fine as are the graphics.

Now that he mentioned the absence of population, it became very distracting. I really wish well on this franchise. The devs are trying to do something different, but the execution is simply falling short.

I really like Kevin VanOrd but my friend it is pronounced 'Ibitha' rather than how it's spelt, Ibiza. I know it's an easy mistake...

@wahid_hasib Have you played the 1st game? There where no citizens, but motorbikes where in the game. Eden has said they're going to release DLC with motorbikes.

I don't know if I want this or not when i saw the trailers I was all pump for this game but now eehhh!!!! if anyone one who reads this could give me a thumbs up if i should buy it and a thumbs down if I should buy a different driving game

Hey kevin/jane what did u mean u by "its a shame the city is free of citizens and there are no motorbikes" (3:33). This is not GTA. Did u think this game as a GTA type game? Then u r as clever as a monkey.

TDU2 is ok, it is massive but i would point out that the graphics are feeble in places. The Handling is very curious on some cars, rendering them un driveable, Also the online aspect atm is broken, half the time the servers are down and when you do get to log in all the other drivers seem to be bouncing and flipping around, plus i couldnt get into any online races, this is very poor for any game, but for a game that basically sells itself on the premise of online play its unforgiveable, especially since its been in online beta for ages prior to launch. The Single player is quite good but some of the tasks are yawn inducing, ive fallen asleep at the wheel many times, which kind of tells you theres something wrong. My advice if you have the first game dont bother with this, its a carbon copy only now theres a lot more boring things to do.

Looks like a bland game. Kinda disappointed.

I was kind of interested in this game, oh well good thing I picked up Gran Turismo 5 Collectors Edition, must go back and play.

I was part of the Beta Tester Team for this game, and i got to say, Eden had a huge amount of feedback on the handling from the Beta Testers, including me, and since i got in the Beta Testing, they were trying to fix the handling, but it seams they failed. >___>

Well, i was actually referring to english in general, (both American and UK) it makes sense that in europe it has to be pronounced with the "TH" because that is the "Z" in Spain, and in Spain there is no other way to pronounce it, and you probably would seem weird to pronounce it otherwise, in South America there is no other way to pronounce it than with "S" so i guess it's all about perception and the circle you are interacting with and adapting to that situation, which is the main perk of a translator or a language student, knowing how to use it in any given situation,(i am a language major) Kevin is reviewing a game and his pronounciaton is correct, it might sound weird to some but it is not wrong.

I bought the game, and I refuse to play it until they release sim physics.

Kev.....Ibiza is pronounced Ibeetha. The game does look interesting. I've been trying to work out if I want an arcadey style driving game or simulation. This game might be a good balance between the two :)

another just street racing game!!! nothing new, specially handling is poor one :-(

@zatetzu Good explanation. I didn't actually realise that it is pronounced that way in South American Spanish. It's also worth pointing out that in 'original' English (as opposed to American English) it is always pronounced with the 'TH' sound, which is why I thought he was saying it wrong (in Europe if you would probably be laughed at for pronounced any way other than with 'TH'). Anyway, thanks for the education! ;)

Buy and support this game. Yes, it is flawed. Yes, it could be better. But the truth is that the market is drowning under track-based racing games. While most of them are very good (Shift, Forza 3, GT5...), the TDU series chooses to be original and offers something refreshing that you will not find anywhere else. Don't you want to support that? I honestly think that this review does not make the game fully justice, and you have to remember that many flaws will probably be fixed in the coming weeks/months. It's a subscription-free MMORPG with supercars ffs! Objectively, I would give the game a 8.0. Subjectively a 9.5 because it's exactly what I was looking for. It needs more cars though, so I'm hoping for some juicy DLC soon.
