1. Take a great franchise (KotOR - ES Series)
2. Made by respected designers (Bioware - Bethesda)
3. With a parent company looking to make that WoW bankroll (EA - ZeniMax) (Although that's sort of different)
4. Disregard that WoW's model is past its prime
5. Let's start with a great idea than slowly twist every aspect of the game into WoW's format (I just know this is going to happen, it's already started with factions)
6. Put the game a thousand years before the single-player games so we can butcher the lore, make **** up, and milk some expansions
7. Let's hype this puppy up!
8. Profit! Let's sell premium versions for $500!
9. Wait a second everyone's leaving...
10.

Bethesda are the ones making the lore up for Elder Scrolls. They have 100% creative license. Your number 6 point comes across lacking.
Your number 5 point is only half there. The factions arent WoW like, unless there are some undead, space goats and bull people im not aware. There are also three factions, which further conflicts with it. Having opposing factions is MMO standard, but the game is trying that wow formula from the looks of it.
But overall, this game will compete for number 2 on the mmos. Its not doing enough different to be considered anything but a "wow killer" that is to say a game thats probably better than wow, but will never reach the same popularity because people hate change.

Isnt this more like DAOC? three opposing factions with their own PVE areas and a neutral area for PvP?

Guild Wars 2 appears to be a "WoW Killer". but would be giving GW2 to much credit. WoW is horribly aged. Blizzard should of began a WoW 2 a long time ago. The cartoon graphics don't hold like they use to. I think they need to rethink this whole thing with Elder Scrolls online. If they are going to clone something start cloning GW2.

To be fair this game isn't even pretending to be a WoW killer, just another MMO for people to play. Niether does this game have to budget of ToR. As for nobody playing, we'll just have to see. Again I don't expect WoW levels of population, hopefully they wont have many servers so they can be decent at least

You forgot an overabundance of servers in there, and failure to pre-plan merges once the first-month flings are gone.
