What if Ulfric Stormcloak got in a shouting match with the Dovahkiin?

    See topic.

The bout could only end one of two ways:

    1) Jarl Ulfric shouts the Dovahkiin to the ground and pierces the Dovahkiin's heart with his blade (same thing that happened to Torygg.)

    2) The Dovahkiin wins, either spares Ulfric or slays him, then takes the post of Jarl of Windhelm.

(BTW, I'd spare Ulfric, telling him to change his identity and leave Skyrim; I'd convince everyone Ulfric died in honorable combat.)

Pretty sure the Dovakiin has the more powerful shouts. Marked for Death, Disarm, Ice-form could all wreck Ulfric.

Personally, I'd just shout Odahviing and walk away.

You could always simulate the fight with one of those higher level draugrs. You know, the ones who like to ragdoll you with Unrelenting Force before pumping you full of ebony arrows. Frikkin jerks...

i heard Ulfric shouted the boy-king TO PIECES. i've been shouting myself hoarse for a year now and pushed a passel of people over precipices but none of them went to pieces. .

i received the group hug from the Greybeards where they shout at you from all sides, but i'm pretty sure they take it easy on you. wouldn't be good for anyone if they shouted the new hero to pieces, and you'll note the ceremony takes place on easily-cleaned flagstones, so i expect they've learned from previous mistakes

i can't shout anyone to pieces, and i know there are others out there who can out-shout me (mainly dusty old draugrs i can't disarm but can disarm me) so i'm not invulnerable. so if i had to face Ulfric toe-to-toe i believe i'd use a little trick i learned from Avatar, Wizard of Montagar, and while he's inhaling i'd put a pair of crossbow bolts in his chest and deflate the puffed-up old windbag

God, I hate it when they do that. Even I wouldn't use a cheap move like that. I'd prefer to do a Marked for Death shout then shred them with duel swords.

There is some level like 30 or 35 that negates the Disarm shout (it doesn't work on enemies at such high levels, Drauger Deathlords are higher than that.) I believe that you can level up above the disarm also.

I don't think he actually shouted anyone to pieces. Pretty sure it's just nord gossip. Hear-say, if you will. If there actually was a shout for that, I'm sure you could learn it. I figure it's unrelenting force. If you do the Stormcloak Quests, that's what he uses when he goes into battle in Solitude.

If they both shouted at the same time, it would be like the Kamehameha match of Gohan vs Cell, nuff said

When you ask ulfric about the shouting to pieces thing, he says outright that it's just a rumor. He DID shout him down, (sounds like a fusrodah) but the kill was made with a sword. (to the chest iirc)

The first time I fought ulfy, I was pretty high level. He did an unrelenting force at me, which I think is the only one he learned. It was the same as a Drugar Deathlord shout's effect. Whee.

i'm hearing some pretty strong arguments against the position that Ulfric shouted Torryg to pieces

    1. there's no evidence that he's ever done it before or since, or that such a shout even exists (in lore there is: "they had no need of traditional siege engines as they could use the Voice to break city gates"

    2. the murderous traitor himself says he didn't

if i recall my history correctly, they had a similar problem with the assassination of Julius Caesar which was later ruled a suicide then further downgraded to negligent use of an apple-corer at the request of the family

but it is hard to argue with point 1, as why wouldn't the Usurper use that power to save his rebellion if he had it? unless....because he mis-used the Voice, the powers that be (Kyne, Akatosh?) weakened his Tongue-Fu which eventually left him at the mercy of the Dragonborn

p.s. i failed to break the sharpened-log obstacle fences at Ft Sungard with my own weak-arse Tongue Fu; even though a few swings with a bound sword easily took them apart. i think i'll stick with the hidden weapon i spoke of in my earlier post

If he shouted at dovahkiin first he wouldn't be able to kill him, NPCs can't perform a stab animation of such

Shouting's just not that hot*, and ulfric just isn't that hot at it**.

*aside from spots where you needed a specific shout by design, when have you ever really been helped out a ton by a shout? And then you have to wait for ages (in terms of combat) before you can use it again. I use a spell to start out an assault sometimes, but in combat.. it's not much better than decorative. They're neat. They impress the masses, and are fun to toss groups around. Whee!

**ulfric trained with 'great dedication' to learn one shout. Big whoop. He can't use that to aid his rebellion any more than a well enchanted weapon... aside from motivational purposes. "Holy crap, look what ulfric can do! He's like.. wow! Let's ignore than the effect wasn't that amazing as far as turning the tide of battle, and we've never noticed that he can't do it again right away! But wow!"

Dovahkiin would just use Storm Call and walk away leaving Ulfric to be pwned by several lightning strikes.

Looks like I was wrong, but 3DS accessories will not fit 3DS XL, so it's a waste of money. Good job, Ninty. Way to make the worst revision in history.

In regards to the first * I've found shouts to help a lot when I get staggered and right before the enemy gets that free attack in, you know before your weapons or shield is ready. Shout and it steps them back.

Shouts help a lot all the time....

It's just unfortunate that out of 20 shouts, about 5 are useful lol. I like to use Kyne's Peace a lot whenever I'm attacked by any animals just to use it.
