I've always wanted to get this game and when I saw that my friend had it, I had to borrow it. And I'm glad I did. This might just look like a GTA rip off but while it does borrow many elements from the series, it makes them just as fun. But, the driving did take a turn for the worse, no pun intended.
First off, you got your setting. Who doesn't want to wreak havoc in 30's New York? The load times are fairly quick and usually you won't get any during game time. The cars look authentic and so do the characters. A cool feature is the Mobface editor allowing you to create your own avatar to rise through the Corleone family. The guns are cool too. The graphics are at times sloppy but while at others pretty well done.
At first you probably won't realize all the stuff you can do. Robbing banks and blowing open safes are just some of the many activities you can do. While some parts may get repetitive like extorting businesses, they are still fun trying to take over. You can also take control of numerous warehouses. The missions are fairly unique adding diversity to the game. For instance, one mission you have to kill someone and make it look like an accident.
Despite all the positives, there are some negatives. Such as, driving, occasional glitching, freezing, and some repetivity. The last couple of times I've left the screen on pause it took maybe 30 seconds for the game to start up and running again.
Overall I've enjoyed this game a lot. You should defintely try it if you're into open ended games.
