I'm no expert so I can just tell you what I've seen from my playing of the game. It seems to me like it does not matter which shop you sell monsters to, as selling monsters works towards the trade item "progress" of all shops in the game. Even shops you have not found yet can have items unlocked by monsters you sold to other shops. Basically it seems like a global counter of monsters sold where each trade item needs a certain number to unlock it.
If you are selling monsters but not seeing anything unlock, you may be looking at items with very high requirements or some such thing. But in general the number of monsters you must sell is quite high. You may have to sell 20-30 monsters to unlock even the lowest trade item, with higher ones being more like maybe 100+. But the good thing is once you hit a certain number it opens up new items in many shops at once, so monsters you sell aren't wasted.
That said this is just from what I've seen and I may be mistaken on the mechanics of it, but I think this is the general idea.

Try to do your best at capturing monsters. The higher the number of linked monsters, the higher chances you get to capture them. However, be careful if you are at the beginning of the game, as you may lack skills, HP, AP and units to properly fight many monsters at once. Save and give it a shot, see how many you can link and beat without dying. Linking more monsters can also make our stats and skills grow faster, but be careful not to link too many of them, as your BR may go up faster than your skills. Having a high BR with low skills makes the game even tougher, because the monsters will hit you harder and you won't have the proper skills to defeat them.
