I cant go to save zelda??

I've done the race, and I've gotten my bird. I am right past the part where Zelda gets taken by the tornado. I woke up, went and got a shield and my potion. Now i cant get off of Skyloft. Whenever I jump, I get caught by a guy on a bird. There is a little girl trying to get me to get the Beedles Flying shop to stop, but I don't have a slingshot, and from what I've read on here, you cant get one until you are on the ground. What do I do?
