Ever since the Simpsons were created, they have appeared in video games, for many platforms. And just like all other licensed properties, the games have sucked, with the exception of the Simpsons Hit and Run by Radical Entertainment and The Simpsons Arcade Game by Konami.

And now we have The Simpsons Arcade Game. Don't get this game confused with the game made by Konami, Electronic Arts has created a totally new game. The gameplay may be similar, but the game is totally different.

The game is a beat 'em up. You play as Homer, who goes through stages, beating up enemies. To control him, you use the joystick and buttons on the screen to move and attack, respectivly.

As you go through the levels, you'll meet more enemies that have different abilities. However, the weaker enemies seem to repeat often. When you complete one of the parts in a level, you will fight a boss, which is a character from the show. The bosses were challenging, since you had to find it's weak spot, and exploit it. The bosses may also change up their attack pattern to make it harder.

There are also power ups that you can grab. The rest of the Simpsons are also here to help out Homer. They each do something different. Bart will repeatedly shoot his slingshot, Marge will vacuum Homer's head, making his arms spin and plow through everyone in his way. There are other powers, like doughnuts which will restore your health.

One of the biggest letdowns with this game is that it wasn't voiced. That's a dissapointment, because with voice acting the game could've been funnier. I understand why it wasn't, due to the limitations of the iPhone/iPod Touch. There is still humor in it, because there are some voice clips.

THE VERDICT!

Overall, The Simpsons Arcade Game is a great game. It's presentation is where the game truly shines. Everything is seamlessly packed together. You get a great looking game, coupled with great controls, mild humor, and fun gameplay into one affordable package: $3. If you're a fan of the show, then you should definintly give this a go. You won't be dissapointed.
