Associate Producer MJ Chun explains the many features coming to the upcoming third installment in the wildly popular life-simulation series.
@ ChApStIk576: No basements. No split-level houses. All that has ever been mentioned is that it's EASIER to make basements, but there is still no real basements in the game. You can't make a house half-buried in a hill, and you still can't shape the landscape as you wish around the house, the houses still have to be on top of the land, can't be IN the land. There's some slight improvements to building houses, so you don't end up with floating elements you can't delete because there's nothing underneath them, like in Sims 2. And roofs follow the walls so when you move walls around the roof changes shape accordingly. But a lot of the improvements also sound like they are gonna limit even more how creative you can get with the architecture. As a long time fan of crazy architecture, Sims have always let me down. Very few real-life structures can be copied to Sims, though the quarter-size tiles in Sims 3 should make it somewhat easier to compact objects into small spaces.
Hey, here's a thought... Will they add BASEMENTS this time around? I mean seriously, it's nice to have 3-4 story buildings, unique personalities, sharing content, blah blah blah... But the last two games and their expansion packs have all been lacking basements! People could do so much more stuff with their house designs and/or layout. There are very few houses IRL that lack one... and if Maxis is trying to make this game as realistic as possible... where are they???
the game is the same from the first one...... even the grafix looks like 3 years old the grafix sucks and the game is the same from the first one as for the expantions.....they shuld put it in the original one way overrated
Its A Great Game And Now They Made It Totally AWESOME ! Man... I m Really Lookin Forward To It !! And Just Hav A Question In My Mind... There Will Be Expansion Packs Or Not ??
Let's not forget about EA doing DRM to their games lately (like with Sporte and Red Alert 3). We all remember how ugly that turned out on Amazon. But yea, this game does look pretty good. I still prefer the simplistic nature of the original Sims (even though I don't play it anymore, lol)
It's because we, men, luv to blow sum heds oph, and sissies like to put kinky wallpapers on virtual walls :D
It looks like the plant life moves in the wind, that definitely adds a good realistic feature. I love the move editor too.
I still don't get why so many play sims so much. Believe me, I've tried, but it just didn't hook me like it did my little sister.
Someone made a point further down about endless expansion packs. EA just love to get as much money as possible, the pricks. They could put it all into 2-3 packs. Sims 2 has like 20 or something.
Great Video. I cant wait for sims 3 to come out. I am so gonna buy it. My girlfriend is more excited than me though XD :S
Rebenns2- Sims 2 Isn't an RPG. Its a simulation game.. While not the best out there, Its still pretty good, or, I think so, at least. Anyway, I agree about the DRM, VERY big downer. Takes hours to work around too. >.> But! Nonetheless, I am still awaiting this release. Heres to hoping it scores!
i don't care about the graphics, it's always about the gameplay, the graphics are good enough for me and it looks good enough to todays games
Doesn't look good. Graphics are on par with what was around in 2005, and it looks like the emphasis is still on buying and customizing stuff, rather than simulating human relationships and creating narratives. Modern RPGs, like Mass Effect and the Persona series, do a better job of this than the Sims ever did. Also, it's rumored that Sims 3 will use their infamously draconian DRM, Securom. If this is true, that would automatically disqualify it from purchase consideration.
hey, this footage was posted in 23 jan 2009 ..... for me, freedom in the sims means you can make you children suffer and die without make the social worker come and kidnap them ...
What's with all the reused footage constantly? Really? Did they lose the ability to record decent new footage? Or is there just nothing else to show, meaning it's super shallow... well if it's not, then they need to do a better job convincing me.
@Saab G What do you think the "Woohoo" option is? As for killing people, you may not be able to do it directly, but there IS a hitman service mod pack out there. As for drugs, What kind of thing do you think that would do for your sim? I mean, it's not like you're the one on the trip. And besides, in the long run, it'd just give you as the player no benefit and screw up your sim.
It looks like they're going to have a bit more help in the way of content sharing, given the fact that they have access to the spore content system. Also, the creation tools look a bit more focused on texture and color than shape or anything like that. To be quite honest, I'd really like to see some interaction with larger scales, or perhaps meshing with a future simcity game like simcopter did with simcity 1.
Graphics look disappointing, they don't look that much greater than Sims 2. It'll take more than a few new gimmicks to force me to ditch sims 2 and fork over 50 bucks to EA
MasterFreinz: That's like saying Halo 3 is the same as Halo with better graphics, like saying Final Fantasy 1 and Final Fantasy 10 are the same but for somegraphic tweaks. Just because the core concept of a game doesn't change doesn't mean it's the same game.
When it comes down to it, Sims 3 is exactly the same game as Sims 1 and Sims 2, but with slightly better graphics. ... which is why it'll sell so well.
I have no problem with this game. Its just the endless expansion that's going to get on my nerves. I mean come on, i can deal with 2-3 expansion packs. But not dozens of them coming out every month. Anyways, as a game its look promising. As for the graphics, look at it this way; people having a comparatively low-end PC too will be able to play this game. Here's to hoping that this game wont disappoint...
woah this game doesn't look good... I admit that I'm a ps3 owner but this isn't fanboy talk... I agree with fps dominator on everything except for the character creation in PSHome, the character creation there sucks big time, the sims 3 character creation is much better.
This is not a new game. This is a REVAMP of an old game. People who liked Sonic, the old Sonic, wanted a Revamp. They didn't want new. Look what they did to him now. We don't want new. We want the same stuff, with some cool new features. Also, to the tons of people who don't like the graphics..It doesn't matter what they look like. People don't play Sims 3 for the graphics. Don't judge a book by its cover, and all that. Finally, if you never liked the old sims, YOU WON'T LIKE THIS. THIS GAME HAS NOT BEEN MADE FOR YOU. This is for fans. They're not targeting a different group of people. Hooray for not betraying us, People-Who-Made-Sims 3! But, I digress. The game has yet to come out yet. It could be horrible. But I loved both the other Sims games, and just the fact that I can play one guy and have everyone else grow up with me, is all they needed for my sale. I will love it, I am sure of that, one way or another.
i forgot to mention, even playstation home lets you create a character that detailed and its free, oh and wwe games also use this system so its nothing new. the environments so suck for a PC game since playstation is producing more with an RSX which is only equivelent to a 7 series graphics card. PS3 graphics card is no way near PC ones and yet PC devs create games this bad. i know ur gonna be angry and give me thumbs down, but why dont u face the truth and pressurise the devs instead of supporting their products which their ripping you off for. look at crysis....all of the PC fanboys hyped its short gameplay then they created warhead which was shorter then the original one.....WTF!!!
how comes the graphics suck for a PC game??? I thought PC was the best at graphics and all that rubbish lol. even playstation home looks better and you get to chat to real people....not saying it beats sims as a game, but sims could have done better. i played the sims 1 (PC) and sims 2 (PS2) and they got boring quickly so i think im gonna give this one a miss.
The traits system is basically the turn on/off system fro msims 2, and the life goal system is basically the life aspiration from sms 2... nothing new here and from what i can see, less opportunity for modding.
Yes ,i agree with ssab_g ... but at the end of the post... "The idea of a game like The Sims is great, but as usual, game developers ALWAYS does everything wrong."
I would like a game like this, but not made for girls and children. I wanna do drugs, kill people (not by selling the pool ladder while someone's in it or something), have sex etc. The idea of a game like The Sims is great, but as usual, game developers ALWAYS does everything wrong.
Awful graphics, terrific bodies, disgusting faces. Nothing surprising looking at the developer's face... Buildings are candy-doll-houses - not a bit realistic. Bodies are less realistic than in S2 - fat and disgusting. Total failure.
hope you dont need a powerful pc to run this....hopefully it wont be that much of an upgrade from the sims 2 as i dont have a powerful pc
It is very well having vids of the Sims 3 for PC, but WHERE THE HELL ARE THE 360 SIMS 3 VIDS?! I NEED NEWS! Lol, anyhow, The Sims 3 is looking smokin hot, as always.
Looks good, I'll probably get it. The graphics could have been better, though. Still looks good so I am looking forward to it.
Pretty much the same concept as all the previous Sims games. It will sell. Most will (still!) enjoy it. They will keep making it. Cycle completes and resets.
