    *spoilers maybe*

    Excerpt from Desctroid's review.

There is one “puzzle” that stands out as something of an anomaly. One of your fellow survivors, a woman who until then seemed perfectly intelligent, and continues to be so after the puzzle, seemingly has no clue how to operate a battery powered radio. In fact, she didn’t even know how to look for batteries. Utterly baffling.

Clearly I thought this was meant to show that she was under great mental and emotional stress and even the most basic and simple things where becoming an issue to her due to how she was bottling everything up.

I think it was just a way to give us something more interactive to do and make us pick between

    *MASSIVE SPOILERS*

    Gun vs Techy

    *END SPOILERS*

I do think it could have definitely been written better. No woman, let alone a reporter who's around stuff like that constantly, is that ****ing stupid.

She was able to head shot several zombies no problem, and that was during an actual attack. If she can pull that off why would she be unable to put batteries in when there's a freaking diagram under it.

I could swallow the putting batteries in back to front if she was rattled, but not even knowing it needed them in first place? C'mon. In hindsight it did seem to be, as mentioned, to highlight the gun versus tech knowledge choice, but it was overplayed - it's not as if she was a quivering, nervous wreck at that point which would probably have made it seem more credible.

I'm pretty sure that was to broaden the line between her and Doug.

    How old was she?
I mean it's not impossible to not know how to use a radio like that.
maybe she's an ipod type of girl.

Wiki says late 20's to early 30's.

She's old enough to be a reporter that knows how to handle a firearm.

I mean... how could anyone honestly believe a reporter doesn't know how to operate a radio? It's one of the largest parts of that field.

She's an on air personality, that doesn't mean she needs to be ultra intelligent or anything. Many reasons could exist for why she didn't know the radio needed batteries.

Although like others have said it was more than likely to show you a greater divide between her and Doug.

After all, Doug has very few reasons you'd pick him. Although I think later on in the series you'll be greatly rewarded if you have a techy person around.

Sometimes people overlook simple things like checking if there's batteries in it. Like my dad spent ages looking for his glasses once and they were on top of his head.

You cannot possibly argue this ...

I am pretty positive I could hand a 3rd world malnurished African child a radio and a battery and they would figure out what to do within 5 minutes. I would assume 90% would already would know how to operate it but the other 10% would get there in 5 minutes through trial and error.

An absolutely stupid part of the game and it doesn't highlight stress in any way shape or form. Over played Gun/Tech at best

Psh, implying you have to be 'ultra intelligent'' to understand the basic fundamentals of operating a radio.....

Would've been funnier if she said, "oh wait i have some of those batteries" , then whipped out a big fat marital aid and popped them out.

"I put them in yesterday, so they should still have a little juice left"

I dont think she is a reporter. when she does 2 perfect headshots in the end scene against 2 zombies... Lee gives her a strange look. just my opinion anyway.
  • May 8, 2012 12:46 pm GMT
Perhaps with the stress she overlook simple things.

If they can argue about the radio, maybe they should also include the fact that there was a TV in the other room that seemingly nobody knew about.

^ post traumatic events will make someone forget how to do the little things such as changing batteries in a radio, even if your a reporter....some soldiers during war forget hoe to effectively use thier weapons for a bit. That is because the mind hasn't had time to process the horror it has witnessed. Nor heal from the images that it replays from disbelief.

So yea the reviewers have never been in a situation of great chaos....or interviewed ppl who have.

Plus reviewers are dumb dips***s.....with a worth less opinion such as mine

And I forgot to add...I did laugh at that part and was like " really this chick is on my team and she can't work radios....and she's wielding a gun in my group.". But it sat in my head at the end of the episode....they are going through a lot of stress and can't even relax for a minute with out new situations to solve... Think of calculus...tell me you didn't get stressed and forget simple math..
