Is there a way to turn off the visual effect of the Dark Mode cursed swords short of midding? It's really irritating my eyes, to the point I'd rather just not use the swords at all instead.

Not without modding, to my knowledge.
There is a mod on The Witcher Nexus though, which gets rid of the visual effect. It also gets rid of the life drain/steal properties of (not) having the complete outfit, since apparently it and the visual effect are tied together.

    Damnit. Not worth them, then.

Dark's well balanced enough that for most fights I didn't need the special life drain, although the extra armour is a small enough bonus and still handy. It's useful to be able to take three or four hits in Act I. The swords are only really needed for the brutal fights, like Melitele wraiths or Dmitri.

I suppose I can make them and use them only for hard fights anyway.

Don't use the swords! You can wear ALL the other armour without the lame "darkness" effect as long as you don't use the cursed weapons, and you wont be penalized for not having the full set (well your health doesn't suffer at least), saves you money too!

Though I didn't much like the look of the Dark Armour sets anyhow, but this at least lets you use them without the annoying effects.
