I clearly need help with this game...

first things first. I have bought numerous schematics for things, most importantly daggers but I cannot make them in meditation. I have to have someone craft them for me. What I don't understand is the fact that the samun bomb and fire trap are make-able but the daggers are not.

second problem I am having is how do i find these books to read on species? I see on walkthrough that I need to read about nekkers and endregas and I can do it in Flotsam but where do I go to do it? There's no target on the map...am I just suppose to go into all of the buildings and find books? That's very time consuming.

OK first you need to take the schematics to this dwarf in town, back agains the wall in the non human area. He will then forge things for you if you have the schematics and supplys to make it, oh and the money.
The second thing is those books your talking about are directly across from the dwarf I just metioned. A different dwarf is in his house that looks like a book store when you go into it. I gave up looking for the books and just stubled in to that house and found it.
There is a little arrow around the map (top right) to help lead you with the quest, only problem is with my 80 inch hdtv I still cant see it and it is only there to help you in like 2-10 quests. Even with the guide I'm still getting lost and haveing no idea of where to go or who to talk to. Dont get me wrong I like the game but after about 30mins I get frustrated and turn it off. I still go back to it but it could have been so much better with a better mapping system!!

So, even though I buy these diagrams...only some of them can be made by me (sanum bombs and the weak traps?) I don't understand why I can make some but not others.

There are 2 types of schematics, formulae and diagrams. You can craft any formula in the alchemy menu. All of the diagrams need a smith to craft them for you. Most formulae are bombs or potions. Diagrams are mostly armor and swords. In your item list you can see if your schematic is a formula or a diagram. Hope that helps.

-Formula are for Alchemy and that you need to do yourself when meditating.
-Diagrams are for crafting which you can't do. You need the help of an NPC, there is the Dwarf Blacksmith and also another one in the poor town that has lot's of animals skins and stuff.
*The mini map, map, quest marker and journal are the best part of the game. It's not always obvious to know where to go i will admit that. I simply go into each house and stora make my own map in my head. Also reading and listening to conversations helps a lot to figure out what to do and where to go. This aspect sorta bring me back to the old days of jrpg where you really had to talk to everyone in town, press A on every object and figure out who's where and what they do.
