they gave an 8.5 to lasting appeal and I'm not sure why it wasn't higher... - Apr 13, 2012 7:49 am GMT
...and? 8,5 is still very high score. Look at other sites too.
- Apr 13, 2012 7:51 am GMTign # scoring system is correlated with how much $ they are paid...in this case...cdpr didnt pay them at all to give it a 9 on ign's site...see 9.0 score of amalur on ign ..EA was able to make this happen...this game is truly a 9+/10 material however..ign is just dumb as a brick in scoring their games that make no sense to what the reviewers actually say

-Sent from my smartphone- - Apr 13, 2012 7:54 am GMTGreat score. Although, the 8.5 in graphics seems odd considering the same reviewer gave Dark Souls a 9 in graphics despite the frame rate issues and low poly textures. I haven't played the 360 version of The Witcher 2 so I can't comment on whether this is justified or not, I just want some consistency in a reviewers standards.
- Apr 13, 2012 7:56 am GMTYeah I used to follow IGN a good deal, but lately they've been.. sketchy. They gave games such as Ninja Gaiden 3 a what? 3? While the game wasn't that great, it certainly wasn't a 3. Maybe a 6 or so, but definitely not a 3.
They've also praised other games that were just bad. I usually don't follow the "So and so is getting paid off" people, but I have to say it's a little fishy when you start to see the pattern in their scores.
Anyway, I've played both the first and second Witcher for the PC and I love it enough to buy the Dark Edition for the 360, even though I could have had the extra material for free. Why? The game is great. It's not a 10 to me simply because I think 10 games are very, very rare. But the game has an incredibly engaging story, lovable characters, and a fun battle system. For me, I feel that it's the holy trinity of RPG games that developers need to follow.
I'd give it a 9 or a 9.5. As someone else stated, a 8 or 8.5 isn't bad by any means. I just think they gave it as high as they could without going over some of their "closer" company's games.

PSN: Kendei - Apr 13, 2012 8:00 am GMTIf it was a PS3 exclusive it'd have gotten a 10.
- Apr 13, 2012 8:01 am GMTLOL@ 8 for graphic. This game looks way better than most game out there. It is so unfair for ign to allow a person that already played the pc version to review this. They should review it as a a game of it's own instead of comparing it to the original.
- Apr 13, 2012 8:05 am GMTThis isn't a terrible review. They generally praise the game, naming only a few graphical limitations which are apparently eased by an install. All in all my only complaint about the review is the rather unprofessional gramatical and typographical errors, and the lack of any real mention of the extra content.

I'm in the same boat. There are a few reviewers that come off as complete fanboys due to only reviewing on one console, such as Greg Miller. - Apr 13, 2012 8:11 am GMTXaeroGravity posted...

Greg Miller is a huge fanboy. He shouldnt even be allowed to review PS3 exclusives tbh. I love Uncharted 3 but it is in no way a 10. - Apr 13, 2012 8:15 am GMTXaeroGravity posted...

I agree. As a "professional reviewer" (if such a thing can even be considered), I think someone needs to go in unbiased. Sure, everyone is hyped and when people ask me what I think of a game, I usually tell them to "Give me a few weeks so I can let my fanboy out and give you honest thoughts on the game."
I know sometimes reviewers don't have that much time, but still. Approach it openly and review it based on actual technical levels, not your personal feel towards the game or genre.

PSN: Kendei - Apr 13, 2012 8:18 am GMTYeah, I can't fathom why they gave it an 8 in graphics. If the issues were as minor as she said, shouldn't the score in that area have been knocked down from a 10 to a 9? This is the same person that reviewed Dark Souls and, as others have already pointed out, it was awarded a 9 in the graphics area. Really? I loved Dark Souls, but the framerate in Blighttown and several other areas were terrible and some of the textures were just plain bad. I guess I will withhold judgment until I play TW2 myself (I have only seen vids until now which look waaaaaay better than Dark Souls). I can't help but think when this chick reviewed DS she was a little more generous than she should have been since there was so much focus on the live stream and Twitter events.

but the framerate in Blighttown
No no no, don't remind me of that atrocious framerate. I really had to force myself to get through that.

Therein lies the problem. It's hard to go into a review free from hype. I think the score system needs to be done away with and replaced with a simple Pros and Cons system. Let the reader determine whether or not the aforementioned Pros and Cons are enough to justify a purchase, or enough of a reason o stay away. - Apr 13, 2012 8:29 am GMTXaeroGravity posted...

I've told my friends the same thing. And usually when people fuss about a game review, I just tell them to look at it as overhearing a conversation at the table next to yours VS an actual, true thought of the game. Gives you a base idea of the game with room for interpretation of your own =)

XBL GT: Kendei
PSN: Kendei - Apr 13, 2012 8:34 am GMTMost readers don't even talk about the written content in reviews and choose to focus soley on the score or grade given. It's really become a problem with the journalistic side of the industry.
- Apr 13, 2012 9:13 am GMTI found this to be pretty funny:
8.5 - Lasting Appeal
35 hours is a conservative estimate - importantly, you'll want to play to the end.
At no point does she ever mention the choice made at the end of chapter one that will take you to one of two radically different questlines in chapter two. The game warrants at LEAST two playthroughs to get the whole story (four or more if you literally want to see most every possible situation and outcome in the game), which should bump the lasting appeal much higher.
Oh well, what are you going to do? :/

"I gotta be really careful while shadowboxing though because if I do it enough eventually I'll just defeat the air and then everyone will suffocate." - Apr 13, 2012 9:31 am GMTJust to tell you guys, they usually, if not always play the game only on a single platform then give scores on that. For example, if Witcher 2 came out on PC and 360 at the same time, they'd give the review a 9 (or whatever they gave the wither2 on the pc) and give the same for the xbox.
So I would be careful and read what it says at the end of reviews on what platform they actually played. I know for ff13-2, they only played the ps3 version and not the 360 and gave the same score for both platforms.

If you're worried that they just did a copy and paste of the PC review then that's not the case. It's two completely different reviews with two different scores (9.0 on PC, 8.5 on Xbox 360) written by two different reviewers.
