The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings (Premium Edition) User Review

- The Bottom Line:
- "Mixed reactions"
As I said the graphics of the game are great. Probably the best 3d engine I've seen so far. The lighting in this game looks almost natural and the way the game areas are designed allows for the player to pass from one area into another without a load screen. The fist levels at the castle siege look great. The entire scene is done great. The following chapters look great too but that castle in full daylight is very well done. Probably we'll see more games done with this engine.
And that's where the nice parts end. Combat is not that great a all. In fact is poorly done. Only because your character is overpowered you can deal with your enemies. In general even a boss can't do anything once you got him in you mouse button smashing "combo"(aka the 3 hit sequence). There's another witcher and it attacks and throws spells at you until you hit him the first time and push him into a wall...fight over.
The the bugs....
You can gather stuff from the ground very hard. It takes you some time to position you character in the right spot to highlight something so you can peek it up. Opening a door or using an object can be difficult. All the nice graphics are for nothing if you can't light a torch or open a door.
Another boring part of this game is the huge distances you have to walk without doing anything and when you get to the X spot on the map some mobs show up and you dispose of them with 2-3 sword hits. "Click' whatever you need to click in the game and walk back to the quest giver. And that's generally how this game runs. And it's the same map over and over. After some time you learn the map
Then you have your objects and inventory. Very small I must say. You can't keep more than 3-4 weapons and 2-3 armor pieces. You can gather a lot of crafting materials but you don't have that much to craft safe for some potions you need for quests. Then you have money and the only thing you use them is to pay prostitutes.
Great graphics but the game play is mediocre just as the fight system.

Very different game than it's predecessor. In every single way.

If you like fantasy lore which revolves more around deep human drama rather than human turmoil, you'll love this game.

One of the 16 (!) possible endings for The Witcher 2. *SPOILERS* I chose Roch's side and spared Letho at the end.Posted May 29, 2011

Just a few human fights in the witcher, quest was working girls as you can see at the end. Sorry for the pauses, although one shows the action nicely. Used Aard sign lots.Posted Dec 23, 2007
