And this brilliant - fairly original and imaginative - game get 7.5? I'm not saying 7.5 is bad by any means, but compared to a lot of the dribble they throw out 9's and 8's for that is just a copy/paste of the existing formula this definetly deserved to be up there. What, did UbiSoft not pay GameSpot enough cash to put it up there?
Just finished the single player. It was better than I expected by a long-shot, the game in general as well.
This still doesn't beat Red Storm's Ghost Recons/Rainbows by any means but we all knew they were never going back to that formula. If I pretend this is totally different franchise of game I am having as much fun as I was back when CoD4 came out and was relatively original.
Ending was a bit abrupt mind.

Because MW3 is a copy and paste of CoD4, which is one of the best shooters of this generation.

COD4 and Modern Warfare 2 are two of the best shooters ever. Also, Call of Duty runs at sixty frames per second on a console, and is action-based rather than cover or stealth based. As such a gamer who wants to play a smooth, online, action, console, first-person-shooter, they're pretty much the only option.
I've finished Graw 2 multiple times, all the story missions, all the co-op missions, all the Achievements. All missions of MW1 were vastly better than any anything in Graw2, and the multiplayer/co-op runs so jerkily I wonder if it's even getting 15 frames per second, let alone 30, let alone 60. I love love love love love Ghost Recon, and Rainbow Six, but Call of Duty is better for Team Deathmatch than anything ever released with the words Tom Clancy at the start.
However with the possible exception of World at War, Treyarch have ridden on the backs of Zapella/West/Ward's work and fame. Borrowed engine, boring missions, boring multiplayer. For my money Black Ops was a six out of ten game.

It's a widely accessible genre, added with a simple interface, and a skinner box style leveling system layered over it. Which translates to an easy to understand game with addictive qualities.
It's pretty much the fast food of video games. Whereas GR is in my mind more like lamb shank; more of a complex flavor, but easily fraked up.

Call of Duty lives more on name now than anything else. It's popular so it has to get a high score.
It's not the review sites selling out or anything, its them doing what they need to in order to stay afloat. If they gave CoD a bad score then they'd lose credibility from a lot of readers, even if it were the truth.
If they lose readers, then they could lose their jobs. So unless a CoD game is really, blatantly horrible to the point where most people would agree that it is, they're not going to give it a real score.

The ORIGINAL Ghost Recon and Rainbow six achieved more with a shooter than any COD game ever will.
The ability to customize your team, plan your mission in depth, and realism in and of itself destroys anything COD has done.
This current generation of gamers don't know jack about what a good shooter is.
All they want is fast paced action. And they want it now!!

I think CoD is going to die in a year or 2, but I have to admit CoD 4 was one of the best games ever created. Then Activision, knowing they could milk everyone after, had IW make CoD MW2, but didnt give their employess the money they earned. Then IW left Activision and made Respawn Entertainment. I cant wait to see what the original minds of CoD will bring us in Repsawn Entertainment! ^_^

I don't see CoD dying off. Black ops two shattered pre-order records faster than MW3 from what Amazon was saying.
Point is, CoD fans are dumb and they'll keep buying the same game over and over.

As a grown man with a high IQ, I like thinking when playing games... most of the time. CoD is simply made, simply played, and simply fun. Copying and pasting a great game isn't a bad thing, but it isn't good to those who like change. CoD is getting old, yes, but that doesn't mean it isn't good. It's just the same good. Over and over...

Explain why GR and R6 achieved more than CoD4.
Explain why realism alone destroys anything CoD has done.
What is a good shooter in your opinion? I remember GR. It was 50% auto aim, 25% tactical map, and 25% teammates getting you stuck in doorways. I loved the game and used to coop with my friends because it was so much fun, but you can't tell me with a straight face that it was a "good shooter." It was a great game and an adequate shooter.

Quite. It's probably the other way round even, that COD has destroyed the open-level realistic shooter market. (Destroyed it through it's popularity, you can almost hear the Ubi suits and money-men saying "make it a bit more like CoD"
