The demo was great fun and the movie was awesome so I'm getting this. I'm not sure what to say to people who complain about it not having the latest planes or it not being a simulator. Maybe they say the same things about WW2 games and arcade racers like Motorstorm.
And now Spec Ops The Line is getting great reviews. It's just mind-numbing how the joke was picked up by noone.
To the people that are moaning that some of the planes are currently retired. No one cares, at the end of the day its a stunning game, play it before you criticise. It is by far better than HAWX
The F-14 Tomcat is retired. It is outclassed in every way by the F-22 Raptor. Even it's phoenix long range missile system is obsolete.Top Gun was awesome for it's day but... that day is over. This game is an attempt to cash in on a dead franchise.
@c0deman057: I LOLed at "the NES Top Gun had better graphics." I bet it's easier to land on a carrier in that version, too, hehe. Seriously though, this game looks lame. I bet the dogfighting in Battlefield 3 is much better, and you get way more for your buck.
Look at the twich the plane makes at 0:56, why whould they show such a glitch in a trailer? Is this really the best footage they could use? They're not selling this to me, besides the NES TopGun had better gfx.
*Barf* What a piece of garbage this looks to be. Why can't they make a fight sim that's somewhat realistic and fun? I think a lot of people are gonna be pissed when they buy this game, holy crap it looks bad.
2 Like I have been a war flight sim fan since the 90's and started out with F-14 and Red Baron. My last stick is a Logi WingMan FF and sadly it co-incided with my not finding any more games of my genre on the market. I fell in love with the lines and fire power of the F14 back then and it is still my first love over all of the newer platforms out there. I cannot wait to see this game hit the Canadian markets because it has been a long wait. I really don't care if this Lady was retired some years back, she is like a 56 Chevy- you never get tired of driving her.
Multi-player dogfighting and special abilities (flares) is something that should be further explored, but that trailer looked like ass.
Look, modern dogfighting is boring. I mean if you make it realistic ,it is boring. And if you make it like it's WWI, like this video shows (id' say WWII but even in WWII they didn't fight from THAT close) then well...i don't know, it's like a fantasy version of reality an dit bugs me. If you want to make a dogfighting games either A- Make it be in WWI or WWII or B - Make it a futuristic setting. A shoot 'em up in an F-14, no. Besides, hmm, F-14s were retired from the US Navy in 2006. So unless you're supposed to be some pilot in Iran (the only country where they still fly them) it's actually anachronistic. For the record though, the opening of Top Gun ranks in best movies openings ever. At least for a plane lover. It's too bad the movie following this is about the unlikable douchebags that fly these things (but since i loved the movie as a naive kid, i'll still watch it everytime it comes on...damn you nostalgia)
This trailer makes me appreciate Battlefield 3 even more than I already do. I think I'll just wait for its inevitable Air warfare DLC.
This game looks just horrible. I was kid when I watched Top Gun in the theaters and have played numerous combat aircraft sims. This looks just bad. I can't believe they used the Top Gun movie name to try to promote this. The trailer showed very little of what a sim player would want to see. I have to say DCS owns the combat flight sim genre now. DCS Black Shark and A-10 are hands down the best combat sim games out on the market today. They put passion behind their games. The makers of this game should be ashamed to even use the name Top Gun.
After trying the demo: I like the afterburner/circule button-thing which makes the Aircrafts attaining more realistic movements unlike other games, as i guess. Also, the variety of shooting-down enemys' aircrafts ways is cool. Hence, i'm not sure of the overall game, and i'll wait for the final score.
hm... F-14 versus Su-33 (or are they Su-37 Terminators?) I think other than the "movie original" segments, it IS gameplay ... and I am in horrific shock... arcade, alright, but xbox full game? One thing is right... Never to touch the "Top Gun" series, they all sucked...
They are not f-14's! F-14's don't have completely vertical tails. They are at a slight angle. But they did use F-14's in the actual movie! Not sure why this game shows f-15's......hmmm...
the game is a decade late.. the commentary is so tacky ... :P 'the mavericks' ... @SoN_Of_KaNe123 those aren't f-15.. they are f-14s... i dont see this beating the ace combat series.... ace combat FTW!
@thrice00 actually it's pretty possible, there jet stream can turn vertically and horizontally if im not mistaken i think those are f-15
i'm no expert of Flying game but the graphics look just ok. Explosion effect ...... meh. The game feels like an arcade flying game. I'm not asking simulation but realism should be the key. The plane seems to do things impossible.
