These are GameSpot's nominees for the Game of the Year of 2011.
Dark Souls winning it would be a pretty badass move on Gamespot's part, imo. Although I wouldn't blame them if they just called it a tie between DS and Skyrim. And in a way it would be a reasonable response. I mean, it's like comparing Citizen Kane with a Lord of the Rings movie. Who's to say which is better?
Dark Souls, for me. All of these games are great, and are all GOTY material in general; nothing in memory has enthralled me so much as Dark Souls, however. Demon's Souls won GOTY 2009 for GS, and I wouldn't be disappointed with another win for the Souls series.
Witcher 2 should take this home. No other game pushed the genre forward like TW2 did this year. Unfortunately because most people will vote either pro-hype or pro-platform I guess SKyrim is going to win this one but NOT because it is something extraordinary.
I think Skyrim should have it, but i only own Skyrim. But thts because iv watched gameplay and reviews of al the above and only saw Skyrim is necessary to own. Dark Souls looks awesome as well though, Witcher 2 sounds unique and good, Gears of War 3 is played out imo, i cant see a Batman game winning, and i dont remember any others. Portal 2 is also a creative game and gets credit for being rememorable.
Those are some real nominees right there Dark Souls is my game of the year though. Probably my favorite game ever.
This has been a great year for gaming. It's good to see some of the best getting the nods they deserve for this category.
It seems wrong. Dirt instead of Forza 4? Where is Battlefield 3 and Cod 3? Uncharted 3? This is the worst GOY nomination I've ever seen.
Xenoblade chronicles looks amazing. Sucks Nintendo of America said I couldn't play it before... but soon next year I can :) YAY Soo many good games. ugg
its tough whenever batman is a nominee.. sure skyrim maybe awesome to some, but it all boils down to batman & gears 3.. between these 2.. i'd go for gears coz its the complete package, though i'd also love it if batman gets the award
Wait, WTF is Ghost trick? Never heard of it. Why is it in this category? Waste of nomination space... where's Kirby! XD JK
I think it speaks well for the industry that there are so many great games this year that many popular titles such as Skyward Sword, Battlefield 3 and Modern Warfare 3 aren't even nominated.
@MrNewsman: Yeah it is a bit weird, but they are definitely the GOTY awards across all plattforms. The "best plattformer" award said (3DS), but there is no way they have a category just for plattformers on 3DS.
