Are you not sure if "x" game/movie/cd is any good and would like to hear someone else's opinion before spending the cash? This is the place.
I'll start! I needed a sci-fi fix, something to kill time until the end of the year. Nothing too serious, just a fun sci-fi single player experience. I took a look at last year's hidden gems and Singularity caught my attention. What better way to kill time than to manipulate it? After watching the Giant Bomb Quick Look and a couple of video reviews here and there I can say that I'm sold. But... Is the single player decent enough to go through it multiple times?

A sci-fi time waster you say.... why not try out DC Universe ONLINE! It's a fine time waster I must say, I'm 27 Hours into it and I still don't have a character made.
Singularity, yeah it's very very pretty.

Actually, I also need a new ps3 exclusive as well. I only own the following ps3 exclusives: Dead Nation, Flower, Folklore, Heavenly Sword, Heavy Rain, Ico & Shadow HD, Killzone 2, Killzone 3, Lair, Siren Blood Curse, Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, Uncharted 2: Among Thieves, Wipeout HD/Fury. I'm very picky so, just so that we're on the same page: I'm not interested in downloadable games (with some exceptions), sports games, Resistance series, inFamous series, Little Big Planet series, Haze, God of War series, Ratchet and Clank series, Motorstorm series, Yakuza series, Gran Turismo 5, ... Yes, I know, I just eliminated about three-quarters of the ps3 exclusives library.

I've always liked Valkyria Chronicles. A nice PS3 exclusive RPG/strategy game that's worth a shot. I'd also say Resonance of Fate but that might have been on the 360 as well.
This is not your regular by-the-book shooter... Anyone who was even remotely interested in this title should get it as soon as humanly possible. This is like a best-of FPS game!
The single player campaign is quite long and very atmospheric, the story is intriguing (if not a bit silly at times) and the soundtrack is ok. The game's main attraction is of course the Time Manipulation Device (TMD) and it's AWESOME to use! It's basically a multifunctional plasmid; offence, defence & puzzle solving. The controls are rock-solid but will take a while to get used to (no pick up & play). Shooting feels immensely satisfying because enemies react quite realistically to bullet impacts. I immediately started on Hard and I'd say the difficulty is fair, enemies will not brutilize you but you will have to keep moving during combat. Just about everything can be upgraded: health, health pack efficiency, your TMD, perks, special abilities, weapons, etc. and near the end of the game your character is extremely powerful. Maybe a bit overpowered...
There are, of course, some drawbacks. Audio diaries cannot be picked up, nor can you pick up text files. One can only carry two weapons at a time, which I'm perfectly ok with if it wasn't for the auto-save mechanic that closes off certain area's so that backtracking to retrieve a weapon is not possible (there are weapon stores scattered about). There is no chapter select and because of the previously mentioned auto-save system, you cannot backtrack. So should you have missed some Weapon Tech (needed to unlock upgrades) or an achievement, tough luck. The game is running on the Unreal Engine and it shows; there's some frequent slow texture loading. Graphics are fine otherwise.
All in all, this is a great game that both sci-fi & shooter fans can not afford to miss.

Has anyone decided on their game of the year yet? I'm probably going to start work on an awards writeup for the SB soon and I think it would be nice to have a bit of an experts panel on what survival horror fans picked for categories like GOTY, best horror, or best game no one played.
I have. I'll be writing a blog about my GOTY as well near the end of the month, I've got a pretty good idea of what game will get the title Sadly, it was yet another weak year for horror...

I'm in need of a decent Nintendo 64 experience - perhaps even an unforgettable one. I don't have many games for the console but I would very much like to expand my library. I'm expecting DOOM 64 next week which was the final N64 game on my wishlist. Maybe I'm forgetting or missing out on something? I currently own the following games for the system: Conker's Bad Fur Day, Killer Instinct, Mortal Kombat Mythologies: Sub-Zero, Mortal Kombat 4, Nightmare Creatures (NTSC import), Rayman 2, Resident Evil 2, South Park, Star Wars Episode I Racer, Tetrisphere, Tigger's Honey Hunt, Wipeout 64, Zelda: Ocarina of Time & Majora's Mask.
I'd greatly appreciate any recommendations based on this list. Note that I'm not interested in Mario, Donkey Kong, wrestling, Goldeneye or Perfect Dark.

Well you knocked out most of what I would have recommended right there, lol. Hmm.. Rogue Squadron was pretty enoyable (not sure how much of a Star Wars fan you are). Jet Force Gemini was a nice game, Sin and Punishment wasn't bad either. Ogre Battle 64 was a damn good strategy game for the time if your into those to any extent. Other than that I can't really think of much I would consider must-plays, while it had some quality there wasn't really much diversity or depth in the N64 library when compared to the PS1.

I'm actually not a Star Wars fan at all, I just own Episode I Racer because I enjoy the occasional futuristic racing game When I bought the N64 a few years ago, I think it came with Rogue Squadron, Battle for Naboo and Duke Nukem: Zero Hour. I quickly got rid of those... I do remember playing Jet Force Gemini at a friend's house back when it was released, the camera was terrible. I think I'll give Duke Nukem 64 a try (shame about the censorship though) and leave it at that.

I enjoy playing on the N64, there's a certain charm to 3D games being on cartridge with virtually no loading times, but sadly diversity is the reason why I bought a ps1 instead back in the days. If only Resident Evil 0 got a N64 release

What about Golden Eye that was on that system, I had a lot of fun with that one playing the multiplayer with freinds. Also Hexen was awesome imo. I also agree about rogue squadron, great game. I don't really think you have to be a starwars fan but I guess it helps. The Hoth battle for that game was one of the funnest I've ever seen translated.
Now that you mention it, what is Hexen like? I've never played that game before... Is it a mere Doom-clone or a little bit more than that?
Well it uses the Doom engine. but there were some advancements added, interactive environments namely. Its a pretty cool series storywise though, Heretic and Hexen. The N64 version of Hexen is closest to the PC versions of the series.

Oh Hexen was awesome! Especially the first level, that was really atmospheric and cool. The second one was kinda off-putting to be honest, with all them elements and portals, though I think that might have been like a hub to chose the levels from, but every level I played from there just wasn't as good as the first tutorial one.
