Hows it going all? I was wondering if anyone knows where or how a can become a beta tester for games? Ive been looking into it for a while and cant seem to find the right contract or place to get in to it. Im not a programmer so im not trying to do that. Im just looking for any info for becoming and working as a beta tester. Whenever i play games i look for those imperfections and glitches in games that need and should have been fixed. I guess im sort of a perfectionist.

So if anyone can help me or provide me with some infmoration or direction it would be much appreciated and if not thanx for your time.

Right now is the best time to look for Quality Assuracne Jobs. Check the websites for Gamasutra, Creative Heads, Sony, Ubi Soft, Sega, EA. It also helps if you are willing to move, most QA jobs are located in Major Citys like LA.

You might try this:

http://www.powerupgames.com/

I haven't done it myself, but from talking to them, it seems more structured than just playing beta tests. It's sort of a part-time job that you do from home when you have time. It looks like it's in beta testing/launch phase itself, but there seems to be a little bit going on that might be worth checking out.

The most important thing, though is to start making games. Now. Computer games if you can (it's not that hard if you find the right book/website/class/mentor), but if not, make them on paper. Write an adventure for an RPG. Make a card game using a standard deck. A board game using pieces you draw yourself. A word game to play in the car. Etc, etc.

Of course that applies most if you want to be a game designer. Programmers, artists, producers, audio engineers all have their own paths.

Just my two cents, really.

Det. Frank Drebin: Yes, ma'am, it's very impressive, but we need to ask you a few questions.

As a game develop I would suggest you don't waste time with something like powerupgames.com if you want to get a job as a Game Tester. Just go to www.igda.org/forums and read the Breaking In forum. Lots of great advise on how to get into the industry.

Also check out www.sloperarma.com for an absolute mass of free advise on how to get into the industry.

I have just recently completed my Certification for Game Testing through PowerUp Games. I have been an avid gamer for my entire life and must admit I was a bit of a cocky know-it-all before taking this course. But quickly found that the information supplied was very useful and informative. It was right to the point and educational.

I walked away with a huge array of new knowledge and understanding of terms and the gaming industry as a whole. With excellent one on one support I was able to create an impressive cover letter and resume. I have also assisted with where and how to properly apply for the places I am interested in. As well as tips for my soon to come follow up interviews.

This course was an excellent investment for my new career in the gaming industry and I would highly recommend it to anyone ready to break into the industry.
