Have you ever got so frustrated with a game that you have lost your temper? Have you ever got in such a rage that you have smashed a controller, TV or treasured family pet? I bet you have played on though, desperate to beat the game, adamant that it will not shame you. You WILL make those pixel perfect jump sequences followed by a boss, then another boss, then a second form of the first boss followed by a QTE section, are you serious? Haven't they heard of a checkpoint, wasn't the first boss cheap enough for heavens sake? What did I do to you?

Help is at hand in the form of my new invention, the 'Can't-We-All-Just-Get-Along' button that will seamlessly be integrated into all PS4, XBox720 and Wii U controllers. One press of this button and all the in-game characters put their differences aside, call it even, break open a few tinnies, watch a bit of Friends and just, you know, get along. Sure we can get back to killing each other after work tomorrow but for now let's just take it easy. There are no winners or losers here.

To me it's the perfect solution. The gamer gets to save face ('I thought that I had hurt enough demon spawn for one day and there's dust on the screen or something, it's not a lack of skills. Seriously') and the developer stops getting flak for developing cheap scumbags that can hit you mid-combo and then launch into a series of unblockable attacks that take away 3/4 of your health, yeah really ('It's OK, we justified the appalling balancing of Jinpachi by implementation of the Get-Along special move').

So could this catch on? For games like Demon's Souls or Ninja Gaiden that actually hate you (despite spending money on them that goes to the developers, I didn't buy second hand, come on Ninja Theory why are you punishing me?) it could certainly save my blood pressure and may add some longevity to a game that I may have previously smashed into my own face. Should I contact Dragons Den? Does anybody else have any other brilliant ideas they want to share?

@Big_Bad_Sad - Ha! I know that feeling. Foam controllers are another good idea though.

Any fighting game on a difficulty setting higher than off makes me want to fight real people. I punched a friend once with the pad in my hand I was that pissed off. A sponge pad might have stopped me getting sent home that day.

@julianozuca - A lot of those games would need it. Battletoads being my personal example - that speeder level was murder! @biggest_loser - Yes! We could roll it out to all sports events or competitions. @s_h_a_d_o - Don't worry, the booze could still be present but with the advantage of enjoying it with our new friends Shao Khan and M. Bison. Imagine that party! @DR-ZMBK - Cheers. It would have all the benefits of quitting without the shame.

@wavey_gravey - Thanks. Your support is welcome. @Gen_Warbuff - President of the USA eh? Yeah I could handle that :P @WorldOfHurt - That's a good idea. Gaming is a weird hobby in that if you get stuck you are hindered from moving on. Can you imagine if this happened in a book or film? @hostX9 - Good checkpointing is a real must for balancing the challenge and reward of progression. A play it later button could be like hitting pause but then being able to turn off the machine and come back a week later. Makes sense to me.

The "can't we all just get along" button idea is brilliant. Sometimes I just get frustrated and quit, this button would be very helpful.

Hilarious idea :D Well sometimes it's the big feeling you get it done a very freaking hard boss or chapter which could cause you to rage (somehow I don't rage like I was when sometimes goes something wrong in a game because I think it's not wort it, it's just a game after all) because you had to retry it so often, certainly there are limits in how far should a game go in this way. Truth is thought that I dislike games whit bad checkpoints because they make you play it as long as you have to play it to make a level done, and not as long as you can or want. (de Blob for example way made the way you had to complete a level in one shot) So maybe a -play it later- button wouldn't hurt as well

I actually an advocate for a "Meh-Lets-Just-Skip-This-Part" travellator. Skip the current boss-battle/arena/QTE-circus so you can enjoy the rest of the game without wasting another hour button-mashing...? Please, devs? Do our sanity some favours? No-one gets hurt, no bad feelings, lets just not talk about that crazy difficulty spike again, ok? Deus Ex, I'm looking at you.
