    ALIENS:Colonial Marines XBOX360/PS3 Update.....

Movie tie-in games on the whole have never been great at delivering the experience that was expected of them. Suffice to say it's a bit of a death warrant for any game to be attached to a movie release, so this is where 'ALIENS:Colonial Marines' can potentially defy this gaming curse. With the film being released oh....some time in 1987 if I recall correctly, Gearbox have had all the time in the world to sculpt and refine this game into a masterpiece, so in a way the pressure is still there, but this time to deliver a great experience, so that's a positive. In an interview I read with Mike Gallo, producer on Colonial Marines, I was furnished with this lovely information.

The game will take place directly after the events in Alien 3. Hopefully there'll be some intruiging storylines to clear up some of those unanswered questions about what happened after the incident on LV-426 and the prison planet. As you work your way though the campaign and discover the answers to these questions you will take on the role of several different Marines, allowing you to see the story unfold from several different perspectives. This could be a great way of telling multiple story archs at once and give the game room to have greatly varying environments, as the original movie had a very stark, blue colour palette. Ofcourse there'll be plenty of classic Aliens moments and environments but having some freedom to stretch the boundaries will hopefully be a plus. In the cooperative mode of the game,(which should be great....Left 4 Dead anyone?)you and 3 friends will play as marines as you work through the campaign, dealing death and trying to escape it at the same time. The inclusion of a GoW 'HORDE' style game mechanic in online multiplayer would be a fantastic addition and hopefully will be in the final release.

Mike Gallo was also making it clear that the team understood the importance of keeping the feel of the game authentic: "Since Aliens is our closest influence, we have strived for authenticity to the film that players have never seen before. The look of the game is directly inspired by the film, down to the film grain and lighting. We've hired Syd Mead to go back and create new concepts based on artwork that he made over 20 years ago"

The campaign will see you and your team pitted in various locations, some familiar like the Sulaco, and some all new, though Gallo wasn't giving anything away and did not comment on them. There's a good chance that the prison planet will be in their and of course LV-426, but aside from those....who knows???

There is currently no confirmed release date for ALIENS:Colonial Marines but it was stated that the game would be released in the first quarter of 2009(hmmm). It'll be interesting to see if Gearbox can pull this off. If done right this game will be a joy yo play and a fine addition to the Alien franchise. If done wrong then it will have, like so many others games tragically fallen into mediocraty and dissapointed a generation or two of fans.

Fallout 3 'The Pitt' ERRORS update

Many of us were dissapointed yesterday after downloading Bethesdas latest Fallout expansion 'The Pitt' due to a multitude of errors including in-game freezing and wierd red diamonds containing exclamation marks. After several hours of silence Bethesda released an official statement:

"We are continuing to look into the issues people are experiencing with The Pitt for Xbox 360. As of now it looks like the file for the English version on Xbox Live was somehow corrupted. We are currently working with Microsoft to remove the existing file off of Live to prevent any further downloads. Our plan is to replace it with a new file as soon as possible. We hope to have another update for you shortly."

Hopefully "shortly" will only mean a few daysbut in my experience of dodgy DLs it will probably be a couple of weeks. I'll keep you posted with any developments and let's hope that we'll all be killing Trogs really soon. 8)
