When is too much too much?

Do you feel like your waisting your money when you buy yet another game from the same franchise? Unless your a major fan boy of the series, i'd think that i'd be spending a lot of money for a game that only adds a few changes and isn't another revolutionary game or isn't at least a decent game!

Take Guitar Hero for example: Guitar Hero, Guitar Hero II, Guitar Hero: Rock The 80's, Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock, Guitar Hero: Aerosmith, Guitar Hero: World Tour, Guitar Hero: On Tour,Guitar Hero: Metallica, Guitar Hero: On Tour: Decades,Guitar Hero: Smash Hits, Guitar Hero: On Tour: Modern Hits,Guitar Hero 5, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, and the upcoming Guitar Hero 6. That's like what, 18? Let us not forget the other spin-offs! Band Hero, DJ Hero, and the upcoming Band Hero 2 and DJ Hero 2. Four added right there. 22 games released from 2005 to 2010. That must be a record or something.

Why so much? Do the developers want us to get more achievements and trophies? Nah, the achievements and trophies are mostly all the same for Guitar Hero and including some of those ridiculous ones, i'm looking at you Guitar Hero II and 5! Do the developers want us to enjoy the music that are in their games? That might explain Guitar Hero: Smash Hits. Do the developers want...i dunno...money? That's probably it. Guitar Hero: Rock the 80's is STILL $49.99 in my local Wal-Mart!

Some times, or all the time, it's quality over quantity. There are so many games to pick from, but which one would you like the most? What are in these games anyway? New music, you can't have a music game without music, but are they songs we really want or songs we've actually heard of before?! New character creation, all they add are a few new shirts and shoes but remember that they are only in that one game, you won't see them anywhere else. New controllers, same mic, drums haven't really changed much since Band Hero,I really miss the click on the guitars...but they are improved...somewhat. What is it that'll make these games sell? The fact that it's Guitar Hero.

All though, there are franchises that continue to sell games that are always better than the older game in every way. Call of Duty, Pokemon (Somewhat), Mega Man, Mario, Phoenix Wright (Again somewhat), Assassin's Creed, God of War, Metroid,Rock Band, hey don't hate.

Next time, if you want a game from the same franchise, I say buy it...if it has quality. Call of Duty is starting to get the hang of it...until Activision did you-know-what. Remember quality over quantity. Achievements and trophies are just achievements and trophies, you don't need them unless your a junkie. Don't buy a game just for achievements and trophies! Buy a game that's good, not just another Tony Hawk game that's still the same as the others.
