    Essential Reading List

Decided to make an essential reading list for anyone interested in reading what I consider the greatest of classics.

Dante - The Divine Comedy, La Vita Nuova, The Convito, basically anything you can your hands on because he's brilliant
Carl von Clausewitz - On War
    Homer - The Odyssey
Arrian - The Campaigns of Alexander
Xenophon - The Expedition of Cyrus
    Plutarch - Parallel Lives
Cicero - Political Speeches & Defense Speeches
    Ovid - Metamorphoses
William Shakespeare - Hamlet, Macbeth, King Lear, et al. All of the tragedies + The Tempest, The Merchant of Venice, Richard III & Twelfth Night
    Aeschylus - Oresteia trilogy
Fyodor Dostoyevsky - Crime and Punishment
    Vladimir Nabokov - Lolita
    Herman Melville - Moby Dick
    Virgil - Aeneid
Niccolo Machiavelli - Discourses on Livy & The Prince
Lewis Caroll - Alice's Adventures In Wonderland & Through The Looking Glass
John Steinbeck - The Grapes of Wrath

And some modern stuff that's fantastic if you have even a passing interest.

    Modern writers
Tom Holland - Rubicon: The Last Years of the Roman Republic (probably the best and most readable novel about the last 50 years of the Roman Republic)
Kenzaburo Oe - A Personal Matter
Ivo Andric - Bridge on the Drina
Ross King - Michelangelo and the Pope's Ceiling
    David McCullough - 1776
    Jean Edward Smith - FDR
Jean Renoir - My Life and My Films
Rick Atkinson - An Army at Dawn: The War in North Africa, 1942-1943
Doris Kearns Goodwin - Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln
    R.W.B. Lewis - Dante: A Life

    I, too, got BioShock Infinite.

Yup. And at full-price too, smh. First game I bought full price this year and won't be the last. I'm still at the very beginning and will be playing more today after the World Cup qualifying matches are done. Also, I think I'll be playing with my 360 controller. This game's mouse sensitivity is waaaaay too loose and I just prefer the 360 controller in single-player FPS.

bonus: read my sh1tty BioShock review from when it first came out. fvck that game now
