    The One-Two punch

This had planned to only be a review for X-Men, and Merlin, but....I got stuff to say:

    1. Well, the Gamestop plan fell through. The goal was to go out there today, trade in my PS2, 4 games, and some other stuff (other game's, dvd's), to get a used PSP. Well....that didn't work out. I did make it out there (due to a really good friend helping me out). I had my PS2, 10 games (like 6 ps2, and 4 xbox), and all the stuff. The prick at the counter was like..."Yeah, we're not going to offer you the full 100$. You're missing the controller (I had one, but in the tiniest or print on the site, it said 2, in really confusing language), then he said because my warrenty stick was peeled off, that lowered the price further. If I had sold my system, the games I brought with me, I would've only got about 75$ or so. He also said that the offer wouldn't be good on a used PSP (which is what I wanted) So...yeah. That highly annoyed me. I think i'm just going to trade it on Craig's List, and hope for the best.

    2. I've been trying to download this two-part movie thing called, "The Second Coming". It's a BBC drama about a guy who is the son of God, and society breaking down from it. It was done by Russel T. Davies (Doctor Who writer), and has Christopher Eccleston (9th Doctor) as the main character. From what I understand, this show was the proto-form of Doctor Who, so i'm interested. It's also taking stupidly long to download (over a week now, give or take), which I don't like.

    3. I've been slogging my way through FF8, especially since I've completely lost interest in Lego Batman until they fix the Penguin bullsh*t. I made it up to the second disk, and i'm trying to stop the missle launch. The GF system blows, because commands like "item" should be used by every character. Something like Kamikaze might not be needed, but "Item", "Magic", and possibly "GF" should be used by everyone. Squall is still annoying, I see NO romance between him and Rinoa (I always thought Quistis was supposed to be the love interest), Laguna's battle music is awesome, and the Triple Triad game is insane.

    Ok, review time:

    Merlin --

    The good:

    1. It was nice to see Arthur actually give a sh*t about Merlin. I dug that aspect a lot.

    2. Michelle Ryan looks kind of hot, kind of weird.

    3. No Dragon. Yay.

    4. The orb ball, looked kind of cool.

    The bad:

    1. The fight with the (essentially) dinosaur was....stupid. To say the least. The creature looked goofy, and the fight was cut so poorly, it made me want to punch someone. Zooming in on Arthur when he does something does NOT make an action scene. It's called using a goddamn "wide shot", so you can see it when Arthur tries to attack the creature, and the creature recoiling.

    2. The spiders were also really dumb.

    3. Uther seems kind of like a douche.

    4. The political crap in this episode fell through, hard.

I dunno, this episode didn't really do it for me. Arthur's quest was kind of nice, and the dude playing him seems good, but it felt kind of flat. The hackneyed action scenes really bugged me though. I'll give it a 6 out of 10.

    Wolvie & The X-Men --

    The Good:

    1. This episode focused almost entirely on Nightcrawler. That was very cool. He is done very well in this show, his accent, his design, his use of swords. All of it worked really well.

    2. Spiral also worked great. She was fairly powerful, and a good foe for Nightcrawler.

    3. Mojo looks super twisted.

    The Bad:

    1. I'm confused about who the chick was on the boat, who was chained up, firing energy blasts? Explaining that, could've helped some.

    2. There's kind of a weird lack of focus about this tv show. Like, the X-men haven't really been featured as a team yet. So, it's kind of annoying.

    So, i'd say 8 out of 10.

    PSP? Fail

    Stuff:

    1. The dude I was gonna trade my PS2 for his PSP, flaked out. He strung me on for 3 days, first day he was asleep. Second day he was busy. Third day (today) he sold it to some dude, after stringing me along for 6 hours. So, screw him. My plan right now might be to trade my PS2 in at Gamestop, and I could probably swing it that way.

    2. Spiderman: Web of Shadows? That game looks GREAT. It looks really fun, and twisted. I'm concerned about how actual gameplay is going to work (since the Joystiq trailer didn't show any), but Venom-Wolverine looks cool, and Venom-Electro looks more cool.

    3. I just reached the Gibraldi (or whatever it's called) Garden. Squall is so whiny.

I got more stuff to talk about, but i'm tired. Later everyone.

    Buy 3 for 1? Nope

Ok, the news that Starcraft 2 is being split into 3 seperate games is....well, dumb. It's becoming increasingly clear with game companies, that they're trying to screw you out of more money then is needed. They release a game about 80% done, and then sell you the remaining 20% in an expansion, or DLC.

Here's the thing: Starcraft 1 had it (mostly) all. The story was excellent, the races were diverse, but well-balanced, voice acting was great, cinematics were nice, etc. The game had "it". The only thing Brood War added was the Medic, and the Dark Archon's.

This new SCAM by Blizzard to bilk people out of more money is, evil. They've fully embraced the Activison mind-set of releasing as much crap as they can think of, AFTER the fact, in order to get more money.

Congrats Blizzard, you're officially just another corporation now. Hang your heads in shame.

By the way: Blizzard isn't the only one really doing this. I saw a headline about Tomb Raider: Underworld (a stupid subtitle), talking about how DLC is planned for the game.

HOW ABOUT YOU FINISH THE GODDAMN GAME FIRST, THEN TALK ABOUT DLC?

Jeeze, you jackasses at Eidos and CD have no idea do you? Finish the game, THEN release DLC. Unless this crap is going to be free, I wouldn't be interested at all.

DLC is (largely) a marketing scheme in order to make money. It only works in 3 scenarios:

    1. Rock Band, and to a lesser extent, Guitar Hero DLC. This works because it's not (super) expensive, and provides newer content. The games come with about 80 songs, so releasing 3-6 new songs per week is fine. Plus, you can use all the Rock Band 1 crap in Rock Band 2, which is an awesome idea.

    2. Marvel: Ultimate Alliance. I found this DLC to be decent. Just having more characters is fine. They weren't integral to the story, so who cares? I would've bought the pack that had Cyclops in it.

    3. Burnout Paradise. This DLC is awesome because it's all free. They're throwing more and more crap into the game, just to make it better. If they wanted to make a buck on the Motorcycle DLC, they likely could've. But, Criterion seems more about improving the game, then making the easy buck.

Oh, also: I didn't mind the Crackdown DLC. If only because the Keys to the City thing, made that game awesome. And also, was free.

in the end, this move by Blizzard is a huge slap in the face to the gaming community, and to fans. They're basically admitting they just want to make cash, regardless of the quality of product, or anything like that. Their arguements that the game is taking too long too develop is complete crap. "Hey, pull some people off Diablo 3, FINISH Starcraft 2, then work back on D3" At this point, Starcraft 2 is further along (development-wise) then D3. So...they pull people off SC2, to catch up on D3. That's retarded. You finish the further ahead game first, go back to work on the less developed game, and then put that out.

    F*** you, Blizzard.
