So this week in class we were talking about personality types and I thought this was interesting enough to share.

What's your BrainHex?

It's basically a gamer type personality test, comparable to (but not as detailed as) the Briggs Meyers Personality Test.

(It even asks you, as an optional question, what your Briggs Meyers type is.)

It seemed pretty accurate on my end, here's what it told me.

Your BrainHex Class isSeeker.

Your BrainHex ClassYour BrainHex Sub-Class isSeeker-Mastermind.

You like finding strange and wonderful things or finding familiar things as well as solving puzzles and devising strategies.

According to your results, there are few play experiences that you strongly dislike.

Your scores for each of the classes in this test were as follows:

Seeker: 19
Mastermind: 15
Survivor: 8
Socialiser: 8
Conqueror: 8
Daredevil: 4
Achiever: 4

I wonder what's out there...

You likefinding strange and wonderful things, or finding familiar things.

Your behaviouroften shows curiosity, sustained interest, and a love of stimulating your senses.

Your major brain regionsare the hippocampus (where memory is co-ordinated) and the various sensory cortices where vision, sound and so forth are processed.

Your chemical messengeris endomorphin, which is chemically related to opium, and has been linked to interest.

If you were an animal, it would be a cat.

Favourite games of Seekerssurveyed so far includeElder Scrolls,Final Fantasy,Grim Fandango,Okami,Shadow of the Colossus, andZelda.

Your BrainHex class is related to the Easy Fun Key (4 Fun Keys), Immersion motivation (Yee), the Wanderer (DGD1) and Mimicry (Roger Caillois), and is partly related to the Explorer (Bartle Type).

I'm kind of curious as to what some of you guys would get. =P

Sounds like you would be the opposite of me. I don't like to devise strategies - I like to annihilate everything with superior strength or numbers!

Really low on the socializer part, but it's more that I don't care to play with strangers & love to play with friends. However, it was right in that there are some play experiences that I strongly dislike, like sports games and online shooters (at least CoD/Halo, which unfortunately is the archetype. If only more people had played TimeSplitters...).

I'm Seeker-Conqueror. I don't really feel as though all those categories fully explain what goes into people's behaviors when it comes to gaming though. They all make sense, but I don't really feel like any of them matched the reasons why I play games. I suppose I felt the same way about my Meyers-Briggs test too, so its probably just something about Jungian archetypes that I find off-putting.

@WTA2k5 well why do you play games? You can't just leave us hanging like that, that's just mean.  =P

@Allicrombie I'd say the reason why I play is endemic to the game I'm playing. I play games much differently depending on its genre, style, tone, or even the platform I'm playing it on. While I might seek out various secrets in Skyrim, for example, my focus when playing something like Call of Duty or Uncharted lies solely on killing enemies and moving on to the next checkpoint regardless of what hidden goodies may be lying about.

@Yagr_Zero strange, you dont strike me at the dominatrix type.  This could shed some light on why you're in virus creation though.

You like solving puzzles and devising strategies. Your behaviour is focussed around making the most efficient decisions. Your major brain region is the orbito-frontal cortex, an area just behind and above the eyes involved in making decisions, and the nucleus accumbens (or "pleasure centre") which is closely linked to it. Your chemical messenger is dopamine, which is chemically similar to cocaine, and is involved in habit formation. If you were an animal, it would be an octopus.

@s_h_a_d_o you may have had it two years ago, but I posted it today, and studies show that newer is always better, i.e. Modern Warfare 3, Halo 4, AC III, and all other games, books and movies with a numerical additive at the end. =P

@pokecharm: My Meyers Briggs was INFP if I recall correctly, and I think it was the most accurate, out of all the given choices.

@Allicrombie That was my Myers Briggs as well, at least the last time I took it. I'm an introvert by nature, but most who have only met me in the last year or so would never think that.

huh, interesting, I don't put much weight in these though...my Meyers Briggs seemed totally off...

@pokecharm Meyer Briggs is based on the work of Carl Jung to a large degree and he was from the 19th century.   Jung's transference and archetypes were considered ground breaking at the time and just as Freud has to large degree been rethought many experts are now reconsidering the work of Jung.

years ago after Freud was rethought (or rather considered thoroughly for the first time) Jung was the clear choice as being the remaining psychiatrist who was held in high esteem by the profession.

it is about time so consider whether or not his ideas were ever correct isn't it?

@iowastate:  yes, yes it does.

@Hallenbeck77:  ha, I picked up Borderlands 2 on steam a couple weeks ago.  I'm at the ripe old level 3.  But I am 58 in Torchlight II so that counts for something, right?

You like collecting anything you can collect, and doing everything you possibly can.

Your behaviour works towards the satisfaction of completing tasks and collections, and the intense reward of overcoming impossibly distant goals ? about which you can become obsessive.

Your major brain region is the nucleus accumbens, the ?pleasure centre?, which is triggered whenever you collect something or complete a task ? the bigger the achievement, the bigger the reward!

Your chemical messenger is dopamine, which is chemically similar to cocaine, and which has been linked to good habit formation and obsessive behaviour.

If you were an animal, it would be a beaver.

Well, this probably explains why I've become addicted to Borderlands 2 the past few weeks--trying to get those legendary weapons has been an obsession.  I'm three levels away from hitting the level cap...and then, only then--will I allow myself to open that golden chest in Sanctuary.
