After I registered my SEN account and got some game-time in on my brand new PS3, my first thought was ?Why didn't I do this sooner?? Sure, the machine is more powerful than my beloved X Box 360. Sure, it has newer tech, uses blu-ray disks and is, arguably, the superior system. It's not the tech, though, that made me question my decision a few years ago.

I started by playing God of War 3. It was a blast returning to Kratos' quest to rip Zeus' head off. My time with it was a beautiful thing, as I've come to expect from the series.

The real eye-opener was Uncharted 3. It's hard not to ogle at the graphics, physics, or how human and organic the game seems. The sense of scale alone as I lead Drake on his crusade is staggering. No game on the 360 has ever made my jaw-drop the way Uncharted has.

Not only did I realize that maybe I should have gone with the PlayStation 3 from the get-go, but it made me realize what I'm missing out on a pure-enjoyment level. This isn't a puff-piece for Sony or the PlayStation 3, it's about me evolving as a gamer and finding where my enjoyment lie.

I was raised with a joystick in one hand and a controller in the other. I remember Atari waning and the NES rising in popularity. My brother and I spent hours playing Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, The Legend of Zelda, RBI Baseball, etc.. I had the Game Boy and a slew of games. Over the years, I loved my Sega Genesis, swooned over my Nintendo 64 and Game Cube and played a ton of PlayStation 2. My gaming loyalties were with whatever caught my interest. That is, until I moved.

A few years after I moved to the Boston area, my small group of friends played X Box over PlayStation. When the 360 came out, they all got the system and boasted about the graphics and online capabilities. When the PlayStation 3 came out, I was ready to move onto the next generation. Though, with my friends all having a ton of fun over X Box Live, I decided to join in and get the X Box 360. And why not? There was Halo 3, and explosions! Gears of War, and explosions! I did soon miss my gaming world of Jak & Dexter, Kratos and, especially, Ratchet and Clank.

The lure of multiplayer was a key factor in my decision as well. The ?pew-pew? factor and leveling up constantly and just having fun were all intoxicating, though I've never been exceptionally good at the games. After a while, all of the multiplayer games started feeling the same. I had a falling out with my best-friend and my gaming group. X Box Live became a very lonely place.

Sure, there are plenty of games I haven't ventured into. There are genre's I haven't poked around in a long time. One thing I am risking with crossing the streams between SEN and XBL is the backlash of partially starting from a clean slate. On SEN, I don't feel so awkward or jumpy playing games. The worry that I'll be killed by, or teamed up with, one of my old friends isn't there. The plus side is, there are a lot more different games and genres that catch my interest on the PS3. The risk of crossing the streams is that I'll still be doing it alone.

Glad to see someone crossing over to the dark side... not implying anything, I just used this as a metaphor for the PS3. :P I didn't have a chance to experience console gaming as a small kid. I was born in the mid 90s, and the only gaming I got was when I went over to a friend's house. He loved his PlayStation to bits, but soon switched to PC gaming and so did I whenever we got the chance to play together. In Poland, PC gaming still dominates. When my family moved to England (when I was nine years old), I eventually got a PS2 (since UK seems to be the land of console gamers). When the Xbox 360 came out and most of my friends got it, I - always being the kid with less money than everyone else - kept playing on my PS2. :P

Thus, this is where most of my childhood gaming memories come from: over at a friend's house back in my country, and bashing every game I had for the PS2 with my older brother. :) My family's financial situation allowed me to enjoy the older generation of games a little bit longer (including many pre-owned titles which were always on sale with amazing prices), because it was not until Christmas of 2009 that me and my brother got a PlayStation 3. We didn't really have much say in the matter; it came free with a deal that my dad took for his mobile phone, plus it was a present found under the Christmas tree. :P

However, even though most of my friends back then had 360s and my parents got me and my bro a PS3, I was happy with their choice. Perhaps they paid attention to my constant nagging about it, but I always wanted a PS3 since the day it came out in the UK (which was in late 2007, I think). Maybe it shows that I was more egoistic; that I would choose better graphics and exclusives that seemed more interesting to me, over the experience of playing online multiplayer and having fun with friends.

That was when I entered HD gaming, since I also got my own PC a few years after getting the PS2 but I didn't have the hardware to run new games on max settings. However, ever since I got a graphics card upgrade for my PC sometime last year, I've been gaming more on my PC and less on my PS3 (mainly due to the cheaper prices of PC Games and being able to run almost all games at max). :D

Okay, sorry for the long post. I just like reading people's stories related to life & gaming, then sharing my own. :P I hope you don't mind. I would love to play some Killzone 3 with you if you have some spare time; my PSN/SEN ID is BloodiedWarrior, though I haven't logged on in a while. ;)

Exclusives on the PS3 are amazing, I own both consoles, I like my 360 more for multiplatforms but as far as exclusives go, PS3 wins the battle for me, as DR-ZMBK mentioned, those games are amazing from start to finish, you can add me there as well.

Although it still possesses a few advantages over the X360, I'd argue that the PS3 *was* the superior system on first release back when it provided backward compatibility, OtherOS functionality and SACD playback - now it's been dumbed down into a machine that more closely matches it's competition.
